Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle
Forward: 525 head of cattle
Comprising: 383 Feeding Cattle (90 Young Bulls, 42 Beef Feeding Cows, 251 Bullocks & Heifers) & 142 Breeding Cattle.
Feeding Bulls were a varied trade, some stronger and better types flying away at £1000 to £1200, whilst some more commercial types were a mixed trade with some looking value for money against others.
A nice show of 42 Feeding Cows attracted additional customers and helped maintain recent good trades. Short keep cows for hard feed generally £950 to £1150, with KA&HL Fawcett & Son Barden, L Bamforth & Son Halifax and M Mallinson Ltd Mount Tabor all realising top side of £1100 for cows. Nice handy grazing cows £700 to £900 with plainer types £500’s and £600’s. The overall average levelled at £819 including a few lightweight lean types and a Jersey cross at £190.
Stores saw a larger show on offer and some good runs of stronger cattle on offer. Strong Bullocks to £1210 from Jeremy Taylor, Broughton, and £1200 EW&E Lucas, Blackburn. Others at £1170 from A Fawcett Killinghall, £1150 Highfield Farm Coppull and Jeremy Taylor again with pairs at £1140 and £1135. P Coates Farmers Barrowford had a trio of nice heifers making £1270 £1200 and £1110. Craig Schofield Cheadle made £1210 and £1130 of good 14 month old heifers whilst A Fawcett Bishop Thornton made £1100 and A Rayton Longton made £1100 of 14 month heifers. Nice grazing yearling cattle were a reasonble trade considering current prime prices but commercial types still cheaper than those prices seen in the spring.

BREEDING CATTLE
The reduction of mainly simmental cross suckler breeding cattle consigned from JW Barker & Son of Airton was well supported with particular interest from the East Midlands. A very good trade for a run og genuine hard working suckler cattle.
