MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 1st MARCH 2017.
Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Beef Feeding Cows, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle,
Forward: 708 head of cattle,
Comprising: 223 Young Feeding Bulls, 18 Beef Feeding Cows, 461 Bullocks & Heifers, & 6 Breeding Cattle
Feeding Bulls – Another good entry of feeding bulls although the consistent quality seen at previous sales this year was not as noticeable as pens are cleared for lambing time. Strong quality bulls continued to sell on the same if not slightly increased trade although the overall average was back on the fortnight because of the high percentage of young cattle on offer.
Beef Bred Feeding cows – This section is growing sale on sale with 18 head penned today attracting more customers to the ringside and providing an easy option for store cattle producers to bring beef type cows to market at the same time as stores.
Top price today of £1155 from A&N Fothergill & Son, Silsden for a young Limousin cow, Simon Bennett from Silsden showing a good run of Limousin cows at £1095, £1050 & £1010, Ken Lister of Kettlewell sold Blondes at £1090 & £1050 whilst Jack Wallbank, Keasden made £1050 of a Limousin cross.
Plenty of straight cows to graze on from £800 to £950.
Bullocks and Heifers – Again another large entry comprising a more varied selection than of late. Anything with power and in forward condition was quick to sell, whilst stronger rougher cattle had a good following too. Younger cattle were a varied selection, smart goods making the good money, and although some prices on paper look less for some younger sorts, the cattle were more for summering and grazing than putting into a shed on feed.
Breeding Cattle – Just a small selection this week, but some good interest for the in calf cattle on offer.
NEXT SALE – WEDNESDAY 15th MARCH 2017.
640 HEAD comprising 200 Young Bulls, 20 Beef Bred feeding Cows, 400 Bullocks and Heifers
& 20 Breeding Cattle
INCLUDES ANNUAL SPRING SHOW & SALE OF YOUNG FEEDING BULLS
