Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle.
Forward: 670 head of cattle
Comprising: 489 Feeding Cattle (145 Young Feeding Bulls, 48 Beef Feeding Cows, 296 Bullocks & Heifers) & 181 Breeding Cattle.
There was no let up in numbers forward at Skipton for CCM’s fortnightly cattle sale on Wednesday as 670 head were penned for sale.
Young Feeding bulls set the day alight with an average for Continentals of £1043 per head, and tops of £1370 from Ian Pratt of Erringden and £1330 from Ben Townsend of Laneshawbridge. Strong Bulls were easily sold, but the next age grade of 11-12 months were equally well sought after, especially for the better sorts.
Feeding Cows were another large entry, although not with the overall quality of previous sales as there were more of the first cross rather than ¾ bred beef types. A few nice sorts up at £1270 from Michael and John Butler, £1230 from M Ryder & Son, Haverah Park and £1230 from David Bamforth, Wainstalls, and second quality been the trade of the season as an average of £922 was recorded.
Across in the Stores there was a stronger trade for the older cattle, especially noticeable in the first cross Blue and Limousin types. Best bullocks £1200 plus topping at £1330 for a great pen of 3 Charollais from Fox Farms in Clitheroe, next grade £1100 plus. Fewer of the yearling cattle about but trade was seen to be sharper on the fortnight.
A very large entry of breeding cattle included a couple of dispersals plus an annual consignment, with best end of heifers nicely over £2000, and most decent outfits of cows with calves settling at £1400-£1800. Another large entry already promised for 2 weeks time.
