Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle
Forward: 816 head of cattle,
Comprising: 809 Feeding Cattle (255 Young Bulls, 55 Beef Feeding Cows/Bulls, 499 Bullocks & Heifers) & 7 Breeding Cattle.
First third of the sale saw the usual consignments of string bulls weighing 400kg+ which were good to sell all but a slightly reduced price because of a falling finished price.
Mixed throughout the sale were fair number of light bulls sold to free pen space up, which provided a wide choice for those buyers in the market for bulls to run on.
£1210 stopped the 1st prize bull for BL&R Lund and £1000-£1150 was the gauge for the rest of the strong bulls.
If a touch stronger £950 running on store bull was well sold with the rest £750-£950.
All bulls under 12 months averaged £904, a notable shift away from extreme, lean bulls, demonstrated in todays trade.
Grazing cows were again forward in good numbers and also good quality. Pure bred cows sold to £1600 for British Blue from E Crosby. Other quality suckler cows £1100 to £1300, with best cross bred cows £925 to £1050. Overall selling average of £898 for the 54 presented.
Another large entry of store cattle for the time of year met a steady trade today with best retail type & hard older cattle good to sell today with commercial heifers and bullocks struggling to keep with the trade of previous fortnights with the slide in price coinciding with a fall over previous weeks for commercial prime cattle nationally.
Best strong cattle could still hit the high notes with Chris Akrigg of Cray topping at £1230, with a run of 3 strong Lim heifers from Ned Simpson selling for £1120. Again cattle sold in bunches found the going considerably easier today with a run of 8 Charolais X Bullocks 9-10mths from Joe and Helen Drinkall selling to £930.
