TOTAL: 914 Head of Cattle inc:
811 Feeding Cattle (216 Young Bulls, 66 Beef Feeding Cows, 528 Bullocks & Heifers) 114 Beef Breeding Cattle.
Feeding Bulls – still a keen demand from buyers looking to keep bull pens full. Bulls under 10 months averaged £1025 with 2 November born British Blue crosses the pick from John and Gill Huck of Hubberholme at £1300. Bulls 11 to 12 months averaged £1002with a top of £1300 from Alan Lodge of Malham Moor.
A large show of 66 beef type feeding cows today and a fast selling trade. Trade topped at £1300 for a Lim cross from E&AM Simpson & Son of Pateley Bridge who sold another at £1230. James Ogden followed up at £1240, Roland Carr £1220 and David Broadbent £1200. The nice sorts of cows all easily topped 4 figures, whilst the leaner end probably looked the best sold with prices generally £750-£850. One stock bull forward today, and Angus, sold to £1060. Overall selling average right through of £930.46.
Store Cattle were a surprisingly good trade given the numbers out countrywide of late. Best cattle were easily a stand on trade from last fortnight, whilst there were additional buyers about looking for yearling cattle to graze and some of these would be a shade dearer on the fortnight. Softer plainer cattle at stages in day were maybe a shade less, but anything harder or with a bit of hair on were good to sell.
NEXT SALE – WEDNESDAY 6th JUNE 2018.
