NORTHERN LIMOUSIN EXTRAVAGANZA
A cracking sale today with large entries in all departments and a fast selling trade all through. An exceptional show of bulls with vendors released from lambing and a ring full of eager buyers. 19 bulls under 12mo old sold for over £1200 to a top of £1290 and the average for this grade was up £40 to stand at £1028, so the improvement in trade was evident on best sorts and second draw 400kg types. The Spring Show of 55 Beef Bred Feeding Cows saw some good pure bred sorts forward mixed amongst leaner cross bred cows and these attracted a larger company of buyers to the ringside, trade topped at £1460 for a young cow from J&G Huck, others at £1450 for a Blue from L Driver and £1350 from P Fletcher.
In the store cattle lines there was an increased show of bullocks and buyers arrived from far and wide to make a start on their summer grazing requirements with yearlings being the strongest trade seen for some time. Heifers followed similar lines as smart yearling cattle entered for the show found new homes at prices ranging from £1050 to £1250, some exceptional sorts up to £1400. Judging of the Store Cattle was kindly undertaken by Brad Thompson whose choice of Champion from Brian Lund sold for top price Heifer on the day at £1400.
As usual at this time of year, some runs of grazing cattle getting sold in larger level lots and these find buyers keen if you can match cattle into larger lots, just a few sample pens across the age ranges saw Stuart Verity selling five seperate pens of 5 British Blue Bullocks 18mo up to £1210, Winny Sutcliffe from Bolton by Bowland getting 4 Angus similar age away at £1115, Anthony Nicholson selling pens of 5 & 6 Hereford x Bullocks 10-11mo at £890 and £870, and 4 yearling Charollais at £1240. Anthony Rogerson of Chipping had a pen of 6 Limmy’s 11mo sell at £990, David Pawson from Billinge sold a pen of 10 Charollais Heifers 10-11mo at £870 and a pen of 6 of £860, James Ogden from Austwick put 7 Lim Heifers in the ring to make £1000, Whilst Tom Boothman of Linton had a pen of 6 Galloway x Lim Bullocks at £1340 and another of 3 making more at £1460. Messrs Collinson of Colne had 9 Angus x Friesian Heifers around 15-16mo in one hit at £850, and Messrs Cockett of Ingleton 5 Blue x Friesian at £960.
