Forward: 521 head of cattle
Comprising: 516 Feeding Cattle (47 Young Bulls, 65 Beef Feeding Cows & Stock Bulls, 404 Bullocks & Heifers) & 5 Breeding Cattle.
Feeding Bulls – Bull under 12mos averaged £1091 which was up on the fortnight as buyers compete to keep their pens full. Trade for out of spec bulls was also a very strong with a number at £1250 and above. 450kg+ bulls to finish in time and spec were £1250 to £1340.
Feeding Cows – a useful entry of Beef Feeding cows with a number of lightweight first crosses in the average of £849. Top end Continental cows were £1100 and upwards with a high price of £1210. Lightweight strong continental cows to feed from £770-£1000 and lightweight plain cows £550 or there abouts. A Limousin cast bull made £1350.
Stores - 404 Store Bullocks and Hfs passed through the ring today with trade varying with some goods looking less on the week and some goods dearer on the week. 40 Lim Stores sold to avg £1101 for the breed/sex section and top at £1680 from JG Hall & Son Gargrave, with the next leading price for the Lim Steers £1360 from the same vendor. Best bred good heavy weight fleshed steers £1300+ regularly with nice grading Lim steers definitely looking the best sold of the day with purchasers out in force from having flying fat trades in auctions over recent weeks. Again, with the Lim Heifers 82 came through the sale ring today with an overall avg of £974. Best end £1220-£1375, good farming cattle with smaller weights at £1100-£1150. 53 Blue Bullocks all sold in the region of £810-£1340. Best Blue bullocks £1200-£1340 with these cattle carrying a lot of weight and some good conformation about them, with some good dairy bred blue bullocks from D+J Coates selling regularly away at £1100-£1190 for a cracking run from David with these cattle being short term sorts carrying some good flesh amongst them. More long-term farming cattle of all descriptions and breeds sold varied with more farmers ringside to buy the smaller bullocks and heifers but all to a price. Some hard-young weathered cattle looked value for money with some Lim Heifers looking well sold in the late £700’s to late £800’s. Black and White Bullocks sold well with no massive weight Friesians this week with just an entry of good farming/ feeding sorts to farm on selling from the late £600’s to £890 from MP Jennings. A mixed entry of Angus cattle in with the best big end £1100+ and some feeding sorts in the £925-£1050 and some farming types £775-£850. Angus heifers sold with size selling to a premium as has been the case for the past several sales. Feeding cattle that could be farmed longer from £680-£740 larger types around £800 mark and big feeding cattle topped at 1040 from M Ryder & Sons.
