Grazing and Feeding section - 56 head forward for sale, top price with a Charollais cast bull at £1580, OTM Clean to £1360 twice and beef Grazing Cows to £1180. Short keep cows in strong demand, especially if farm assured seeing trade generally £950 to £1150 depending on condition, medium types £700-£900, whilst the long keep leaner end were best to sell from £550 to £680. More beef cows required for the fortnightly catalogue sale, please speak to Ted or Jeremy for more details and to book cattle in.
A good run of store cattle through the ring met a much busier ringside of buyers compared to the previous fortnight. A better sample of younger cattle meant for some heady prices with the likes of John Harker from Lofthouse seeing his 10mth old heifer bid to £1110 with 43 bullocks 5- 10 months of age averaging £825.
The older cattle were still out in force with a cracking sample of strong bullocks up for grabs. Ned Simpson topped the bullocks at £1300 however it was a tremendous heifer from John Hopkinson at Cowling which rung the bell at £1500 with heifers levelling at £954 for all breeds and ages.
Some nice runs of breeding cattle in the top ring and a run of incalf heifers from JM Gillett, Mellor creating strong interest to top at £1500.
Next fortnight sees the annual Show and Sale of the Craven Champions with entries closing next Wednesday with the Unmissable Tuesday night show night 6pm.
