STORE & BREEDING CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 6TH JUNE 2018

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 507 head of cattle Comprising: 441 Feeding Cattle (123 Young Bulls, 46 Beef Feeding Cows, 272 Bullocks & Heifers) & 66 Breeding Cattle. With the 2017 born bulls eligible to be sold as under 16months and farm assured reducing in number, trade hit a new level. Andy Rigby topped with both under 10 mo and under 12 months sections, trade spilled into the older bulls with a 21 months old dairy bred at £1160 and average of £950.

Feeding cows saw another good entry selling to a high of £1340 from W Holden, then down to £1180 form JE Beresford, so an average £922 across the board for a plainer entry of 46 cows looks a good result. Any cows not in work would look well sold at the moment with buyers plentiful, and keen for the offering in front of them making selling them easier work at the moment.

Store Cattle were forward in slightly tighter numbers and strong cattle were a sharp trade right through the sale. Yearling bullocks and nice sorts of heifers were a good trade, but those soft slape types were harder work in places.

Some good numbers of breeding cattle as is usually seen at this time of year, and plenty of interest from the ringside. A couple of unregistered breeding bulls both finding new homes, whilst better outfits on the day were nicely over £2000. These next couple of sales will include some other annual consignments of breeding cattle so keep an eye on the forthcoming catalogues.
