Feeding Bulls – Feeding Bulls defied the odds to record a £12 increase for continentals on the year with £977 ave versus £965. Natives were £126 up of the year reflecting emerging demand for Angus Bull Beef.
The show of bulls was exceptional with pen after pen of U grade cattle and better, the real first draw of 2019 spring calves. Bulls under 10 months saw the best into £1180 for March 2019 Lim x bred from Continental cow from J Nelson & Son. A pen of David Barkers March 2019 Charolais Bulls proved worth selling in groups when 4 together made £1145. At the lesser end of the early 300kg bulls were comfortably £750-£900. A good run of mainly Jan/Feb bulls from JR&DL Ogden topped at £1260 for January Lim with plenty of bidders for cattle from a high health herd. Very few bulls in forward condition failed to make £900 and most getting away at £1050 plus.
Feeding Cows – these were an exceptional trade for a very good show. Heavy continental cows were all £1150 to £1240. Non breeding beef heifers 30 months plus were £1200 and the commercial first cross beef feeding cows took a lift with most £750-£850.
Stores – A nice start to the new year with smart cattle in high demand and feeders keen to re stock sheds and take advantage of the quality available, with new customers attracted to the sale and successful in purchasing. Native cattle and Dairy bred types also forward in large numbers, Angus bullocks being especially good to sell averaging £995 and Friesian Bullocks av £805 with a top of £930. Yearling and younger bullocks finding favour with several annual consignments having a good following.
