2nd D&A Livestock Lot 74 sold for £800

3rd H Mudd Lot 39 sold for £865

 

A high proportion of the entry spring born 2019 and not directly related to the current steady finished trade with the better continentals £800-£930. Anything not quite the shape £700-800. Autumn born bulls a nice trade with RM Williams annual consignment £970-£1020. Heavy bulls 13months plus from £1090 to £1350.

3rd E&M Townley Lot 752 unsold

 

Most interest revolved around the best of the continentals with a British Blue from I&M Lancaster at £1430 but not as many top end cows in the entry. A few plain hill cows at the bottom which were £420-£570.

Good show of cattle on offer today all being shared out to over 60 new holdings. Strong suckler cattle still making a premium trade along with the suckled Calves from 6-14 month old. Dairy bred stores would be a little harder to place compared to past weeks but still getting away very well considering the current beef market. Topping the Market at £1210 was a Limousin Heifer from C Nelson whilst topping the steers today was a 1st prize 2018 born Limousin steer from P+E Fox.

Leading Price in the bulls at the Autumn Pedigree Event was Queenshead Odin and Ampertaine Elgin son, a first calf bred from Millington Juliet.  Born in March 2018 Odin was shown by Pat Varley of Queensbury and joined T Longton & Son of Quernmore for 1800gns.  The first prize bull was the Limousin 2018 Elderberry Olden, Jupiter son, shown by E Blenkhorn & Son, son of Willitoft which made 1650gns to EW Gill & Sons Ltd of Sabden.

The leading Native Breed was a 2018 Aberdeen Angus Bull, Mossie Mire Pluto shown by AR & HE Cox of Laverton.  Pluto is a Gretnahouse Krack Lad son in the top 5% of the breed for retail beef yield and he sold to John & Tracey Lund of Coniston Cold for 1750 gns.

Overall top prize at the sale was the Champion, a 7 year old Tomschoice cow, Horsdoeuvre, sold incalf and with her Mereside Leo heifer calf at foot by JM & SP Cooper of Dacre to Jan Feather of Oakworth for 1850gns.
