MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 10th JUNE 2015
Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle
Forward: 358 head of cattle
Comprising: 126 Young Feeding Bulls, 162 Bullocks & Heifers & 70 Breeding Cattle
A great show of bulls for the time of year attracted additional buyers, some buoyed by the recent increased returns for finished cattle and trade was sharper than the previous sale and the average rose to £1,006.90 per head. Smart strong bulls were £1,200 plus up to £1,340 for a cracking Blue form Mark Nelson of Bull & Cave Farm in Clapham. All the nice makers were £1000 plus.
The story for the stores was very similar to the bulls with trade certainly looking better with the movements in finished cattle and smaller shows in other centres driving a handy trade today. Strong continental heifers from Andrew Rigby of Slaidburn would have the pick of the trade to £1300 and Paul Drinkall with a pen of 9 Aberdeen Angus steers also proved a hit making £1125 a piece. Averages £995.16 for steers and heifers at £893.59.

Breeding Cattle
A good entry of Beef Breeding Cattle met the seasonal strong demand. The very top heifers and calves were in very short supply with John and Alison Spensley’s pen catching the eye with a Limousin cross heifer with Limousin cross heifer calf joining J Verity and Son of Nidderdale for £1920.
Topping the sale was a British Blue first calver with British Blue Heifer calf at foot which although milking on only 3 quarters had the quality to make £2250 for Edward Crosby of Morley.
