Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle:
Forward: 359 head of cattle;
Comprising: 359 Feeding Cattle (136 Young Bulls, 14 Beef Feeding Cows & Bulls, 209 Bullocks & Heifers)
Feeding Bulls – This was our first store cattle sale without vendors on site which is for the protection of public health. We are very appreciative of the vendors understanding and co-operation in enabling this and leaving stock with realistic instructions reflective of the times.
Trade for feeding bulls was very fair (approx. -£20) with the strong bulls and very smart bulls very similar on the fortnight, some small bulls were a shade easier but most late £800s if shapey. A good audience of customers to sell to and interest already for next fortnight.
Feeding Cows – its that time of year when there should be less Beef x feeding cows anyway and this knowledge held the interest of buyers. Whilst slightly easier because of the falling finish price the impending shortage kept the entry a very respectable trade, a 2015 Limousin Cow at £1020 from JM&S Tennant.
Stores - A very pleasing sale for Store Cattle today with operational changes taking place to keep well within social distancing measures. The major change was that the sale of Bullocks and Heifers took place in the larger main sale ring, almost like a re-enactment of the famous old Craven Suckled Calf Club sales. Cattle were also organised into age order as well to further reduce the number of people present at any one time. What’s most important though is the trade, and strong cattle were good to sell, with Bullocks to £1290 for Limousins from E&AM Simpson & Son of Pateley Bridge, £1250 for a 12 month Blue from E&M Townley & Son, Clapham and JG Hall & Son of Gargrave at £1250 for a pen of 3. Other forward yearling bullocks sold to £1180 £1155 and £1110 from K Sunderland of Rossendale.
Heifer trade reached £1200 on two occasions, the first from E&AM Simpson & Son of Pateley Bridge for a 23 month old Limousin and the same price for a 17 month Blonde form K Lister & Sons of Kettlewell, plenty of other stronger heifers £1050 to £1190 including a pen of 5 Limousin at £1110 again from Messrs Simpson Pateley Bridge. Not a lot of quality about today in the yearling category, E&M Townley of Clapham topping at £1000. Younger cattle found a nice enquiry on the day and with grass day just round the corner buyers will be looking to fill orders.
Now we have got a sale out of the way and everyone knows what they are doing, next fortnight will be easier and vendors can enter cattle with the usual utmost confidence of achieving full value at live auction. If anyone wants to discuss arrangements for selling cattle at this time please do not hesitate to contact any of the auctioneers. Thankyou.
