Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle
Forward: 671 head of cattle
Comprising: 130 Young Feeding Bulls, 5 Grazing Cows, 518 Bullocks & Heifers, 18 Breeding Cattle
CCM Auctions conducted their fortnightly cattle sale at Skipton Mart on Wednesday which included the Annual Autumn Show & Sale of Suckled Bull Steer and Heifer calves (2014 born) together with a prize Show of over year show potential cattle (2013 born). The sale saw a total entry of 663 head, an increase of 117 head from the same sale last year.
The prize show of cattle was very well supported and judging undertaken by Mr Paul Barwood of Great Yarmouth. The suckled calf he selected as champion was consigned by Mother & Son, Janet & James Huck of Sowerthwaite Farm, Austwick. This lovely February 2014 born Blonde x Heifer was sold for £1180. The reserve champion was a January 2014 born British Blue Heifer consigned by Stephen Walker from JC Walker & Son of Brennand Farm, Dunsop Bridge. This later sold for £1020.
Ian Rawlinson of Quarry Bank Farm, Marton Ulverston topped the sale with the second prize 2013 born heifer. This homebred British Blue Heifer born August 2013 sold for a marvellous £1470.
Strong store cattle although a nice trade but were no dearer than the previous sale. The suckled calves on offer were a good trade, with many runs showing just a slight increase on the year.
The young bull section saw a slight increase in entries from last fortnight and the smart goods in the correct age brackets found a very ready market.
