FEEDING BULLS – A very good trade to round off the year, with a full ringside of buyers for a small show which indicates that feeders are looking to use every opportunity to keep pens full. The under 12 months bulls are just starting to come on stream with the strong end £1100 upwards. With no let up in demand for prime cattle, todays trade augurs well for the New Year Sale on Wednesday 6th January for which entries close today.

FEEDING COWS – Excellent trade for feeding cows and more needed for next sale.

STORES – A small show of only 153 Bullocks and Heifers met an animated trade all through with all classes strongly sought. Bullocks found a good enquiry, smart strong Continentals reaching £1430 for a 17mo Limousin from M Ryder & Son, who had others from £1330 to £1260. DT&LA Houseman also had a run of stronger Continentals with a 19mo Limousin at £1375, also making £1355 and £1340. AC Ward & Partners had a nice pen of 3 Charollais Bullocks at 15mo and these traded away at £1155 a piece. Blue cross Dairy Bullocks 14/15mo old seeing three pen fulls at £1140 £1135 and £1130 from JW Barker, with B Spensley Ltd also selling yearling bullocks to £1140. Angus Steers today averaging £1128 per head, and topping at £1230 for a 14month Suckler bred type from MJ Holmes of Burnley and yearling Hereford x dairy Bullocks to £1120 form B Spensley Ltd. Black and White Bullocks required on a regular basis regardless of condition.
Heifers were a super trade with men looking for retail quality and growing cattle. RS&HA Davey topped the sale at £1370 with a 20 month old Bazadaise and followed at £1340 with a 20mo Lim. Plenty of other stronger heifers £1050 to £1200 for commercial types. Younger cattle were £1000 £1100 for good yearlings and £850-£1000 for smarter late Spring and Summer born Calves, Commercial younger cattle either side of £800.
