Inc Blue Wednesday – 16 Pedigree Blue Bulls & Females
Plenty of cattle forward today for CCM Auctions fortnightly sale at Skipton Mart, North Yorkshire. A good quality entry of 191 Young Feeding Bulls were sold easily with strong short keep bulls in very good demand.
Another large show of 45 Beef bred Feeding Cows were a more varied selection than the last sale but an increased attendance of buyers ensured for a fast selling trade, best smart cows to feed could make £1100plus, top of £1350 for Blue Cow from Stuart Gill of Dacre. More half bred cows about this week, but tidy sorts were easily cashed. The 462 Store cattle were a flyer from start to finish, anything smart was quickly to the mark, whilst grazing types took another lift with grass day just around the corner.
Breeding cattle numbers on the increase as the pedigree sales coincide with the spring cow & calf season, full report further down the page.

Blue Wednesday
Annual Sale of Pedigree Blue Cattle.
Judge - Richard Frankland
Martin Sharp of Stainforth took the honors at Blue Wednesday. The Craven Cattle Marts fixture for Pedigree British Blue Breeding Cattle. Taitlands Kenny, a 2015 ET son of Heros Due Peroy bred from Taitlands Geraldine a ‘Littlebank Danny’ daughter won the male championship and went on to make 3500gns when knocked down to Mesrs Sowray & Son of Bishop Thornton for use on their dairy herd.
Reserve Champion came from the Pendle herd of Mark and Elaine Hartley at Rough Lee. ‘Ko Jack’ the 2015 natural born son of Blue Stone Union Jack bred from one of the herds oldest stock cows ‘Pendle August’ sold to Messrs TB Moorhouse & Son of Dacre for 2700gns.
Leading price at 4500gns was another Taitlands entry from Martin Sharp at Stainforth, ‘Taitlands Ken’ a 2015 unhaltered entry bred from Boothlow Dynamo out of the Heros Du Peroy ET Daughter Droit Hilda which sold to another dairy farmer, Martyn Jennings of Cowling, looking for premium British Blue X Calves.
Nick and Emma Parkers blue diamond herd produced Blue Diamond Klass aa 2015 bull who looked ready for work which sold to WH&MA Keighley of Pool in Wharfedale for 3700gns. Nick and Emma then stepped the other side of the ringside to buy the female champion Springfield Karianne from AJ&DA Wilkinson. Springfield Karianne bred from the ‘Gitan Du Pti’t Mayeur’ daughter ‘Springfield Elsa’ by ‘Visconti De St Fontaine’ is a very stylish heifer which sold to the Blue Diamond Herd for 2400gns.
The sale brought a good crowd to the lines with depth in quality to suit premium suckler breeders and dairy farmers.
