STORE CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 29TH APRIL 2015

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 835 head of cattle Comprising: 203 Young Feeding Bulls, 608 Bullocks & Heifers, 7 Feeding Cows, 8 Pedigree Cattle & 9 Breeding Cattle. Today’s sale capped a great week for store cattle numbers at Skipton with nearly 1100 head traded between Saturday’s Monthly Stirk Sale and today’s regular fortnightly Wednesday sale. A wonderful show of both short keep and grazing cattle attracted a packed ringside of customers. With one eye on the prime trade some customers were understandably cautious before the sale, but generally trade would be stronger than most anticipated. Grazing Bullocks and heifers were the trade of the day, with buyers keen to secure cattle from such a large show and whilst they were there in front of them.

Blue Wednesday attracted a high quality entry from local breeders with Sheila Mason selecting Brennand Invincibull as her Supreme Champion. Bred by the Walker Family from Dunsop Bridge the November 2013 Boherard Cantona son bred from the show cow Brennand Candy headed up the catalogued entry at 3,900gns and selling to D&R Sandham of Yeadon. The Brennand herd also produced the Female Champion ‘Brennand Iris’ a 2013 daughter of Boherard Cantona bred from another high class cow Brennand Crystal. The dam has sold sons into the Norbreck Stud and was secured by MT Sweetmore for 2,450gns.

Returning to the bull section which saw a total clearance. MJ&RH Wallbank (High Moss) took the reserve championship with High Moss Ian a black and white mobile entry already working bred from the 9000gns Bringlee Crispy by Empire D’Ochaine and joining J&G Huck of Hubberholme.

Next highlight was the 3rd prize winning Greystone Indestructable an April 2013 son of Newton Blues Chino bred by the Coates Family at Rainscar. A very correct and mobile bull bred from easing calving lines, Indestructible joined Messrs Horsfield & Son of Foulridge for 3200gns.

A high level of interest in the ‘Owlden’ pen of James & Deborah Ogden was rewarded with the sale Owlden Ispy ET at 3200gns to TH Kilby & Son of Thorp Arch.

The Brookfield herd of Stephen & Gillian Potter achieved another high price with the September born 2013 Dartagnan Du Castillon son Brookfield Invictous which joined Stuart Barrett of Braisty Woods for 3000gns.
