STORE CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 30TH AUGUST 2017

Forward: 731 head of cattle Comprising: 87 Young Feeding Bulls, 16 Beef Feeding Cows, 621 Bullocks & Heifers, & 7 Breeding Cattle. Feeding Bulls – The first real show of 2017 born cattle in the feeding bull section and trade was good. TH Mellin with a pen of sweet February born Limousin crosses out of Blue x Cows averaged £895 with a top of £990. SJ&RK Handy sold January born Limousin crosses to £990 and A Twell with March born British Blue crosses to £980. Under 12 months old bulls averaged £916.77.

2016 Autumn born bulls in short supply and top quality cattle scarce. Ian Pratt headed this section with a 13 month old Limousin cross at £1430. 13-17 month old bulls averaged £1023.

Feeding Cows –

These remained at similar values with the occasional cow selling potentially well. Most notable price from JM Townsend was a under 30 months cow at £1120 and E&M Townley with a 38 month old cow at £1180.
Store Cattle –

Strong short keep Bullocks & Heifers and the smarter end of yearlings were easy to sell and upkept recent rates fairly easily, however the more commercial type of cattle and those looking a bit weathered were harder to sell with larger shows of these around the country. All in all though, a great day for August with 724 head of feeding cattle through the Craven Ring.
