An great show for the first sale in December.
Bulls – A much larger show of bulls possibly brought on by the price of straw. The result was a large selection of 2016 bulls under 400kg which were an easier trade on the fortnight av £848. Top weighted shapey bulls got away well being in short supply making £1100 plus.
A handful of good quality continental cross bulls over 12 months up to £1200 but a lot of bulls in this category would finish over 16 months.
Grazing Cows – A good selection of young COnt x Feeding Cows helped the trade with an average of £1000 along with a good line up of buyers leading price was £1340 for pure bred Charolais cow in store condition from E Pennock & Son.
Store Cattle saw an up and down sort of trade today with stronger cattle still commanding healthy prices although younger rougher types of cattle were harder to place. Handy heifers got away nicely with plenty of small, thick, 14 to 18month old heifers selling regularly into the £900 - £1000.
Top price of the day came for a heifer from Stephen Horsfield of Mytholmroyd, which stood second in class was very strongly bid for with it eventually reaching £1420 and selling to the Maughan family of Penrith. Strong bullocks found a ready market all day with continental bullocks averaging £1025 and topping at £1360 for a cracker from G&R Bulmer & Son. Beef sired dairy bred bullocks were again to the fore with 5 British Blue x bullocks over £1100 and E&MA Burrow & Son at £1130 for the same type of animal.
