Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs

CCM Auctions commenced their fortnightly seasonal sheep sales at Skipton Mart on Wednesday where an entry of 3,071 head was presented for sale.
There was a wide variation in the size and quality of lamb on offer with some runs of short and medium keep Suffolk and Continentals lambs, mixed with genuine long keep lambs from higher lying farms. A few Hill bred lambs with Mule wethers and lambs from Cheviot ewes on offer.
The pre-sale show was well supported and the judge Mr N Tattersall gave the following awards.
1st A Haggas Otterburn 40 Beltex cross at £90 each.
2nd JGE Heseltine & Son 40 Texel Beltex cross at £80 each
3rd S Berry Bradley 40 Texel cross at £72 each
Strongest lowland lambs generally in the 70’s, medium to long keep lambs in the 60’s, genuine long keep lambs in the mid £50’s. Andrew Haggas topped the sale with a super pen of 40 Beltex crosses which were pre sale champions selling at £90, Michael & Elaine Dugdale sold a nice pen at £82, closely followed at £80 by Tom Heseltine. Mule wethers found a ready following, nice sorts in the mid late 50’s, topping at £59 for Scotch bred Mules from Hywell Williams Llangadog. The overall average was just £3.07 up on the year standing at £64.59.
