CCM held their Fortnightly Store & Feeding Sheep sale at Skipton on Wednesday, with numbers still strong for the time of year and attracting an increased attendance of buyers, especially from Southern and Eastern Counties where winter keep is now readily available, whilst the entry begins to move more towards wintering types and a higher proportion of hill bred types.  
The sale still had a good mix of breeds, the 428 Beltex crosses were in high demand seeing Frankland Farms of Rathmell make £117 twice, £115 £114 £113 and £110 in a fantastic run of 84 to average £114.84. T&C Robinson from Tosside were also in the prices at £114 and £110 with two pens each of 24 lambs.
3,542 Texel Charollais and BDM lambs followed suit, and saw £103 paid to J Bradley & Son, Harrogate, £97 to J Greenwood Addingham, and £96 to Stuart Horn, Kelbrook. The strong lambs for short to medium keep were still generally in the £80’s, with ¾ bred smart skinned types very good to sell.
Continental lambs from Mule ewes, regardless of size, continue to find favour with volume buyers looking for large level lots to send to keep, medium to long keep lambs mid £70’s, genuine wintering types late £60’s and early £70’s.
577 Suffolk crosses were a nice selection for the time of year, tops £108 for a pen of Gimmer Lambs form Stuart Horn, and £90 from SL&SD Lund Littondale. Stronger stores £75/£80, mediums £70/£74, wintering types in the £60’s. Breed Average £72.69.
Another large show of Mule and Masham Wethers totalled nearly 1,600 head and levelled at £71, with more long keep lambs now in the entry. Best of the Mules all around £75/£76, next grade £71 to £74 and long keep types £65/£70. Mashams topped £82.50 and £75.50 from W&R Verity and £75 from JM Wilson & Son.
Horned lambs continue to be shown in good order, even if the size of lamb is beginning to get smaller. 811 Swaledale and Dalesbred Wethers sold to £74 for a pen of 12 Swales from A Clay, with Dalesbreds to £56 from DH Challis & Son, Middlesmoor. Generally strong pens again £53/£56. Mediums £45 to £52, smalls £30 to £45.
400 Cheviot, Lonk and Gritstones levelled at £60.03, selling to £72 for a pen of 41 from K Lister & Son, and £70 for a pen of 69 from K Stuart & Son of Penistone.

101 Lleyns topped at £75.50 for a pen of 70 from D&C Wood, Earby and averaged £74.88.
As usual at this time of year, we start to see more vendors including feeding/grazing ewes within their consignments on Wednesdays, with just over 100 head forward today which were mainly Horned. Medium horned ewes to £40, leaner and plainer sorts £25/£30. Texel crosses to £80. More required, please let us know when you are entering if you intend bringing ewes too.
