STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 23RD AUGUST 2017

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 9,802 Head Store & Breeding Sheep (comprising 9,755 Store Lambs & 27 Pedigree Suffolk Breeding Sheep) A very large show of lambs today sold to an overall average of £59.30, completing a busy 3 days at Skipton which has seen over 20,000 Prime, Store and Breeding Sheep through the sale rings.





Today’s sale incorporated an our Inaugural Suffolk Day which included Shows for 20 Suffolk cross Gimmer Lambs, 50 Suffolk cross Store Lambs and Pedigree Suffolk Rams. Suffolk Gimmer Lambs were a sharp trade all day, and sold to an overall average of £80.26 per head, with a top of £96. Strong Store Lambs were a decent trade all day, regardless of breed and these were a similar trade to recent sales, however a long keep and smaller medium keep lambs were cheaper than the previous sale. The Sale consisted of 6,880 Texel Suffolk Beltex and Continetal crosses and 2,875 Mainly Mule Wethers and other hill breeds.

Pedigree Breeding Sheep

The Inaugural Sale of Suffolk Breeding Sheep saw 30 Pedigree and Pure Bred sheep go under the hammer.

The Pre Sale Show of rams saw the ram lamb of Stephen Bolland, Bolton Abbey take 1st prize in his class and went on to make the top price lamb at 550gns to James Foster, Riddings.

John Nutter of Hurst Green took the first prize in Shearling class with a super entry and sold for the top price of 600gns.

A 70% clearance of rams saw shearlings av £569 and ram lambs average £412.
