A great show of sheep today and a large company of buyers to manage them with ease.

Incorporated within the sale was the Annual Show & Sale of Suffolk x and Continental x Gimmer Lambs with over 2,000 head presented, it offered buyers an unrivalled choice of quality and size.

The Champion Pen of Continental Gimmers came from Roger and Jason Craddock of Bolton by Bowland and they sold for £150 per head, whilst another pen form the same vendors sold for £160. Other best lambs topped £100, Ken Gamble next in line at £125 with the third prize pen and Owain Chapman at £110 twice, whilst a run of 230 good Texel x Mules from Angus Dean were either side of £90. Suffolks topped £86 from Adam Staveley. Vendors should note that to receive any premium above store price then gimmer lambs need to be well grown, clean headed and have a good skin, otherwise there is no financial benefit and they are best left as mixed pens with the wethers.

The Annual Show of Masham Wether Lambs saw Messrs Lister of Kettlewell win first prize selling for £63, and a pen of 110 head selling for £58. Mule Wethers were out in force again and would be a shade dearer to average £57.73, Jim Harrison of Covey Hill topping the section with a pen of 92 Wethers at £68. Suffolk and Continental feeding lambs attracted a larger company of buyers and medium to short keep lambs were well sought.
