Store lambs up a gear today! Full ringside of buyers present and some large runs of long term lambs coming through the ring.
Beltex lambs set the pace with the third pen in making £112 from JG Hall, Gargrave. Large Beltex lambs £105-£112. More long term smart ended lambs in the £95 bracket. First cross lambs with size £82-£88 with better bred Texel lambs £90-£106.
Suffolk’s sold very well with price similar to white faced goods, £82-£87 for better end bigger lambs and either side £78 for next grade that were still a good size. Late 60’s to early 70’s for long term lambs both Continental and Suffolk.
Mules and Mashams were dearer with less size and power present in the entry. The biggest end of lambs entered were £78-£85 with a pen of 30 from A Wilson & Son making £82 and a pen of 94 from W Harrison & Son making £79. Medium to long keep lambs made £68-£72 with some smaller genuine wintering lambs in the £60-£65 range.
Swaledale and Dalesbred’s sold to a better active audience for both tups and wethers. A price range of £62 to £69.50 for the biggest Swales, £52-£58 for the next grade of medium horned wethers and £38-£48 for long term lambs. A few pens of smaller end below this but these were mainly farmers end runs! A consignment of 105 Swaledale Wethers from F Macaskill, Killin sold to £67.50 with an average of £66.51.

Breeding sheep sale – there was still a decent entry of Breeding Sheep forward today and a good trade too. Texel rams to a top of 600gns from FA Nairey followed by another at 450gns. Over 400 gimmer lambs presented for our 6th fortnightly sale, the North of England Mules peaked at £107 for a pen of 8 from Ellis Bros, Addingham Moorside, better runners on the day £78-£85 with small young lambs £70-£76. Mule gimmer lamb overall av £75.92. A few pens of smaller horned gimmer lambs forward selling £45-£55.
