STORE LAMBS & BREEDING SHEEP - WEDNESDAY 22ND AUGUST 2018

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 6,357 Head, Overall av £58.23 A good sale today with the largest show of the season so far. More customers around the country are finally reporting grass growth and so there was a wider geographical spread of customers today with more Eastern and Southern buyers in attendance and Welsh buyers also present in larger numbers.

Stronger Store lambs were a sharp trade with Best Continentals into the 70’s, medium Suffolk and continental lambs from mid 50’s to mid 60’s and long keep types early 50’s. A few pens of top Mules on the day around late 50’s to early 60’s, most nice lambs making  £53-£56 and smaller sorts £47-£51.
There were several batches of early season drawn gimmer lambs which saw best on the day in the £80’s and £90’s, and the next grade of strong but not just as smart were in the 70’s. Vendors however please note, only draw the best and strongest lambs for gimmering, most commercial medium and small types are not required for this purpose, and are worth more as mixed pens of wethers and gimmers. For further advice contact Ted or Sam.
