A good sale of 6,000 Feeding and Breeding Sheep today, with trade across all sectors seeing a rise in prices on the previous sale, and an all in average of £70.75 per head.
Lowland lambs beginning to show the time of season more, with strength at a premium, but all classes were easily cleared. Smart pens of Beltex and Texel Lambs £90 to £110, with T&C Robinson of Tosside taking top slot at £113, PM Darwin from Malham and JG Hall & Son of Scaleber both making £106, whilst £105 was achieved by AL Thompson of Foulridge, S White of Wortley, Sheffield, P Johnson of Trawden and RJ Bailey of Reeth. Beltex Lambs averaged £90.17, whilst Suffolks & Texels were both £75.
Mule & Masham Wethers upheld recent rates, with Mules peaking at £80.50 from R Jackson & Son of Horton in Ribblesdale, other stronger lambs on the day £73 to £78, smaller and medium types from mid 60’s to early 70’s. Nearly 1000 Mule & Mashams forward averaged over £70.

Hill lambs beginning to make up a greater proportion of the sale, but customers galore looking for nice horned lambs and Cheviots. 670 Swale & Dalesbred Wethers forward selling to £62 from E&E Metcalfe & Son, other stronger pens £54 plus, and an average of £50.50. Cheviots to £79.50 and averaging £70.62.

Feeding Ewes mainly plainer sorts, but finding a keen enquiry for horned and straight continental cross types to turn away and graze. More required.

In the sheep ring at Lunchtime, we held our Lingfields Fair Sale of Rams and Ewes, together with the 5th Sale of 900 Gimmer Lambs. Rams were a sharp trade for some nice Texels, with 350gn to 450gns common place, and Texel cross Gimmer Shearlings were topping at £140. Gimmer lambs were a sharp trade with Mules in good demand and levelling at £81.44, a great result for the 5th Draw.

There is no let up in trade for Store Lambs and feeding sheep, and a strong ringside of buyers is always present from across the counties and Wales.
