Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep

4788 store lambs through the ring with a definite better stamp of lamb on offer today compared with a fortnight ago. The pre sale Beltex x store lamb sale was won by the Moorhouse family of Dacre with a pen of 25 selling for £81.50. On the whole beltex lambs saw an improved trade with numerous pens between £68- £79 and plenty of buyers to take them there.
First cross continentals and suffolks were an honest trade today with short to medium keep lambs present in strong numbers at today’s sale. Large runs of lambs sold away nicely with Chris Harker of Nesfield selling 137 tex x lambs in one hit at £67.50 and a pen of 94 from E&AM Simpson, Pateley bridge at £66.50. Long keep lambs were still present in good numbers with prices ranging from £47 - £54
Mule wethers saw a trade £3 - £4 stronger on the fortnight with an average of £52.55, with fleshy wether lambs commanding prices well into the £53 - £58 bracket with Stockdales of Burnsall topping at £58 for a pen of 74.
Quality Breeding sheep were a nice trade, Peter Houseman having a run Continental 3crop ewes from £114 to £120 for best sorts, and £90-£100 for more commercial types, 3 crop Suffolks at £108. B Roberts had some Nice Continental Shlgs £130 and £132, whilst John Turners run of correct Mule Ewes were from £80 to £88.
