Forward: 72 Registered Swaledale Rams
There was a large crowd gathered at Skipton on Monday Evening at CCM’s Annual Show & Sale of Swaledale Rams where 4 rams sold for 1,000gns but more impressive a 95% clearance rate, 76 rams forward and 72 sold.
The first of the four figure prices came for a 3 shear ram consigned by JR Smith of Carleton. Bred by Colin Birbeck and used since a shearling it sold to SM Towler, Malham Moor.
Next at 1,000gns was a shearling ram from Kevin Huck, Bordley. This strong clean tup by John Tennants Valley tup out of a Helbeck for ewe sold to Carol Mellin, Oakworth.
Next was a big bright shearling from Robert Crisp, Calton. By his Tennant Gill tup out of a Roy Nelson got ewe it headed off to Harold Smith of Dunford Bridge for 1,000gns.
Last of the four figure prices was a homebred 3 shear from Saddle End Farms got by the old Mossdale sold at Skipton last year it went to Robin Jackson, Blubberhouses. Saddle End Farms sold a 4 shear bred the same way for 800gns to Thomas Boothman.
John Mason sold a 6 shear ram bred ay Aygill sired by Viceroy. It went to Jeff Pickles, Ribblehead for 900gns.
Champion sheep on the night was a Peter Lightfoot bred 3 shear consigned by Chris Ryder, Blubberhouses. It went to CT Akrigg for 800gns.
Averages were good as well with Aged av £435 and shearling av £304
