CCM Auctions conducted their Annual Sale of Swaledale Draft Ewes and Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton Mart on Saturday.
A grand entry of Swaledale Sheep was forward at Skipton on Saturday and trade was seen to be much sharper than most people expected, with shearling gimmers being forward in large numbers and selling away generally fairly well. The champion pen of sheep came from Stuart and Debbie Robinson of Foredale whose pen of 103 crop ewes sold for £190 each. Chris Akrigg’s reserve champion pen, the 1st prize shealrings sold for £240 each. Good sheep were a nice trade all day with some runs recording an increase in their average on the year, and it was only the lesser sorts towards the end of vendors runs that were cheaper on the year. The overall selling average was £107.81 per head, a fall of just 28 pence on the year with an increase in numbers sold of 10%.
