CCM Auctions conducted the Northern Area Texel Sheep Breeders Club Sale at Skipton Mart – The evening sale of Females saw James Houghton’s Tophill flock lead the prices with his Female Champion from the show a shearling gimmer bred from a ewe by Knock Orion and sired by the 16,000gn Milnbank Times Square which joined Mrs S Fitton of Kearsley for 1400gns. With an outstanding pen of sheep the Tophill Flock went on to achieve further success with shearling gimmers at 900,850 and 650gns.
The reserve Female Champion was also picked by Neil Pamplin of Ringstead from his line up of Shealing Gimmers with a gimmer from the Kaker Mill flock belonging to James Robinson of Carnforth. By Hilltop Predator and out of a ewe sired by Tophill Nockout the second prize gimmer joined emerging breeder William Watson for his Gillians Laithe Flock at Hellifield for 1000gns.
The Lodge Family from Moss near Doncaster provided further strong competition in the Shealing Gimmer class with Luke (Moseley Flock) achieving 3rd prize and Susan (Heyworth Lodge) wining 4th prize. There the differences ended with Mesrs JJ Beckwith & Sons of Gargrave wrapping up the purchase of both for 1000gns each. Luke’s 3rd prize winner was by the 18,000gns Allanfauld Rockafella out of a ewe bred by Templand Megane whilst the Heyworth Lodge 4th prize winner is a Sportsmans Tremendous daughter bred from a ewe by Haddo Neptune.
In the ewe lamb class John Mellin’s Hull House flock produced the first prize with a daughter of Sportsmans Terrific II that went on to join the Loxley Flock of John North for 400gns. Hull House followed this with further sales of ewe lambs at 260,260 and 250 gns. William Watsons second prize by Arkle Uncle returned unsold while the 3rd prize winning lamb from the Pergill flock of Jill and Margaret Perrings made 210gn. Outside the prizes John Woods North Valley flock accounted for a sale at 250gns for his Teiglum Outlaw daughter to Philip Hughes of Angram.
Top call of the sale was 3400gns paid by Mesrs K&SM Bradley of Dacre Banks for Simon and Audrey Taylors (Dearne House) Shearling Ram Dearne House Undercover which is sired by Rowlestone Robbie and out of a ewe by Bridon Nixon.
David Towell and his Moor Top flock received strong support for a good pen of Shearling Rams headed up by Moor Top Unique a son of Wigglesworth Spellbound which joined David Ryder of Lindley for 2100gns. David Towells next lot into the ring Moor Top Uncle Sam by the same sire out of a ewe by Haltcliffe Jackpot then joined Mesrs B&K Wharf of Thropton for 1800gn. The pen of Shearling Rams from Mesrs S&S Richardson commanded particular attention lead by their third prize winning ram Stonebridge Untouchable. Untouchable who was similarly placed at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show is by Haddo Ringleader bred from a ewe by Cambwell Ranger sold for 1900gn to Mesrs JGE Hesletine and Son of Bolton Abbey. The Richardson family sold further shearling rams at 1400gn and 1250 gns.
The ram lamb section was eclipsed with the final lot of the day Stainton Vertigo consigned from Peter Woof’s Stainton flock at Kendal a very good type of lamb by Anglezarke Uno which joined G Pyman of Penrith for 2000gns. The Stainton flock also sent out the third prize ram lamb a Sportsmans Tremendous son which joined JR&A Blades of Muker for 1300gns. Second highest price in the section was the 1700gn paid by Paul Strickland of Settle for Stuart Currie’s ram lamb Beautry Vigilante. Procters Farm Ltd of Slaidburn attended by shepherd Geoff Aitken enjoyed considerable interest in the ring and pen taking first prize and Supreme Champion with the Tophill Union Jack son- Procters Viceroy bred from a Haddo Ringleader ewe which sold to Harold Peel of Embsay for 1400gns.
