Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs.
Forward: 3348 Head, Overall av £58.88 (+£2.15 on 2014).
CCM Auctions commenced their sheep sale season on Wednesday with the opening fortnightly sale of store lambs at Skipton Mart. As ever, this sale being the first major sale to be held in the North created tremendous interest from a packed ringside comprising of buyers, producers and interested onlookers from all walks of life.
The sale was deemed a success as 3,348 head were quickly sold and produced an overall average of £58.88, up £2.15 per head on the corresponding fixture last year.
Strong lambs on the day were generally around £60 plus, medium lambs £56-£59 and smaller lambs early to mid £50’s. A few pens of long keep lambs could be picked up in the £40’s.
The Annual Show for pens of 40 or more lambs was sponsored by Tops Tags and judging undertaken by Mr John Bowling of Ashton in Makerfield who awarded the following results:
1st JGE Heseltine, Bolton Abbey. 40 Texel Beltex cross @ £66 each
2nd JW Hall, Darnbrook. 40 Texel cross @ £64 each
3rd RG Greenwood, West Marton. 45 Texel cross @ £68 each
Next Sale is on Wednesday 29th July – Entry of 6000 head expected.
