Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs (inc Suffolk & Cont x Gimmer Lambs) Forward: 7420 Head, Overall av £59.03 Included in todays’ sale was the Annual Special Show for pens of Continental and Suffolk Gimmer Lambs. Trade for these was good, with a large company of buyers keen to purchase the good clean headed types with a nice skin. The best end of both breeds over £90.




The prize show was kindly judged by Mr Robert Towers of Farleton and the Continental championship ticket was awarded to David Towell, Glusburn whose pen of 10 sold for £200 each. In the new section for pens of Suffolk Lambs, Stuart and Stephen Lund of Littondale were victorious and their pen sold for £103 each, whilst a further pen made £100 each.

Buyers turned out in force for store lambs and all classes were good to sell. Strong lowland lambs were into the £60’s, medium keep lambs £55 to £59, Long keep lambs £48 to £54.

The Hill bred lambs were also a sharp trade, especially Mules, with 1,308 Wethers averaging £51.08. James Harrison from Covey Hill Farm led the section at £55.50 for a pen of 84 head, John Harker from Lofthouse made £55.20 of a pen of 45, whilst £54.50 was achieved twice for a pen of 50 from Mark Harrison t/a V Verity & Son, West end and Rosemary Berry made the same price of a pen of 46 head.

Cheviot bred lambs are becoming even more popular at Skipton, with Broomhead Estate Farms, Bolsterstone, Sheffield topping at £57.80 per head.

 

Next Sale is Wednesday 1st October  – Entry of 10,000 expected.
