ANNUAL SALE OF WENSLEYDALE SHEEP
At the 127th Annual Show and Sale of Wensleydale Longwool Sheep held on behalf of the Wensleydale Longwool Sheepbreeders Association a shearling ram from the ‘Nipna’ flock of Mrs J Pennell of Redworth won the Championship and commanded the top price of the day. Bred from a ‘Providence Pete’ bred ‘West End’ ewe the ‘Nosterfield Supreme’son had previously won the shearling class at the 2018 Great Yorkshire Show after his success today soon found a ready home with N Hodkinson of Commonside for 560gns.
Anna Pennell who is also the Associations secretary also produced the female champion for the family’s ‘Nipna’ flock a very sweet ewe lamb bred out of a ‘Nosterfield Olympian’ bred ewe by ‘Endriggs Norman’ which joined D Leonard of Bramley for 320gns.
The sale with a number of highlights saw a good underlying trade with improved clearance rates albeit at slightly reduced levels which reflects keep and the current outlook.
