3RD GIMMER LAMB PRESS - TUESDAY 3RD OCTOBER 2017

Repeat wins across all classes at Skipton gimmer lambs showcase Over 6,500 head of sheep consigned by 100-plus farmers from across the length and breadth of the region flocked to Skipton Auction Mart for the annual gimmer lamb highlight, which again featured four breed shows for Swaledale, North of England Mule, Dales Mule and Masham lambs. Swaledale females take centre stage at Skipton An increased entry of 3,926 head, over 300 up on the year, was penned for sale at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Saturday Swaledale females highlight for draft ewes and gimmer shearlings., (Sat, Sept 30) Good sheep were a nice trade all day, with some solid runs recording an increase in their selling average on the year, and it was only the lesser sorts towards the end of vendors’ runs that were cheaper.

MULTI BREED RAMS - FRIDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER 2017

CCM Auctions held their Annual Sale of Rams at Skipton Mart on Friday. With selling today spread across 4 sale rings the market was full to capacity with breeds covering the main sales for Blue Faced Leicesters, Suffolks, Blue Texels and Zwartbles together with second sales for Texels, Charollais, Beltex and other breeds. The results of the shows and prices achieved are as below. Thanks to all our judges for giving their time and to sponsors who generously gave prizes. Forward: 1,147 head of Rams & Females.

BREEDING SHEEP - TUESDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER 2017

3249 Forward: 375 Shearlings, 554 2shr to Correct Ewes and 2320 Broken Mouthed Ewes 3249 sheep were forward for the annual show and sale of Broken Mouthed Ewes and Breeding Sheep. Young sheep sold away to a healthy trade with Mule Shearlings averaging £3 up on the year with Ronnie Airey of Trawden topping the day with £145. In the Ewes, Thomas Binns of Downham topped with his one crop, 2 shear ewes at £148.

Second Prize Show & Sale of North of England Mule Ewe Lambs on behalf of NEMSA Members. Forward: 8,887 head at an overall average of £91.92 per head (-3.12 on 2016) CCM Auctions held their 2nd Fortnightly Sale of North of England Mule Gimmer Lambs on behalf of members of NEMSA on Tuesday at Skipton. There were more lambs forward at this years sale and trade set off at a fair pace with some very good runs of lambs selling well on the day, especially top pens and those sharp shearling makers and anything with a good skin and a bit of colour. There was a definite trend from the buyers today wanting darker headed lambs, and hence some smaller and younger light headed lambs were harder to place. Sheep were generally a shade smaller on the year, and the overall average was £3 down on the year.

Kevin Wilson works wonders at 2nd Skipton NEMSA showcase Local sheep farmer Kevin Wilson, of Blubberhouses, secured a memorable double when winning both show classes for pens of ten and 20 at the second annual gimmer lamb show and sale for members of the North of England Mule Sheep Association (NEMSA) at Skipton Auction Mart. Coverdale repeat coup at Skipton shearling gimmer show There was a notable double at Skipton Auction Mart’s second annual shearling gimmer show and sale when Lambert and Joy Coverdale and their son, also Lambert, from Crimple Meadow Farm, Beckwithsaw, repeated their Continental class win at the mart’s big shearling gimmer opener last month. They achieved a second success with a pen of ten home-bred Texels, out of North Country Cheviot Mules, and the red rosette winners sold at £175 per head when joining M&E Lavender, of Catforth, Preston. The Coverdales also sold further Texel shearling pens at £170 and £165.

EASY CARE SHEEP - SATURDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER 2017

127 Easy Care Sheep CCM Auctions hosted the Inaugural Sale of Registered Easy Care Sheep at Skipton on Saturday on behalf of members of the Easy Care Sheep Society. Females were a strong trade and bidding was fast with a top call of 130gns achieved for a pen of 5 yearling ewes from Messrs E&F Shepherd of Ainsworth. Good yearlings sold for 120gns plus. Best of the ewes were a pen of 2crops from G&MC Shepherd of Woodplumpton selling for 112gns. Yearlings sold to an average of £112.08, ewes sold to an average of £99.55 Rams sold well with a top call of 400gns for a 3 shear with the Myomax gene from JT&JK Bargh of Walton le Dale with others at 300gns from G&MC Shepher and also from G Lentham Farming Ltd.

Great Annual Show & Sale of North of England Mule Ewe Lambs on behalf of NEMSA Members. Forward: 7,073 head at an overall average of £98.09 per head (+£1.25 up) CCM Auctions conducted their opening Fortnightly Show and Sale of NEMSA members Mule Gimmer Lambs at Skipton Auction Mart, North Yorkshire on Tuesday. As usual there was a great selection of pens of 10’s and 20’s out for show and it was 2 pens from Messrs WA&A Booth, Old Hall Farm that took the eye of both sets of judges when they secured 1st prize in both categories. The 10’s were an outstanding pen and they later sold for £230, whilst the 20’s made £155. Ashley & Rachel Caton from Otterburn Lodge took second prize and they sold for £185 and £180 repectively.

Booth family repeats championship double at Skipton NEMSA opener For the second year running, the Smearsett flock of WA&A Booth, from Old Hall Farm, Feizor, north of Settle, clinched another memorable double when again sending out both the champion pens of ten and 20 at the high profile opening annual ewe lamb show and sale for members of the North of England Mule Sheep Association (NEMSA) at Skipton Auction Mart. GIMMER SHEARLINGS - TUESDAY 22ND AUGUST 2017

Forward: 5,599 head of Gimmer Shearlings CCM Auctions conducted their Great Annual Prize Sale of Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton on Tuesday and saw a much increased entry on the year, same as many other Northern Markets have. The quality end of Mule sheep were largely unaffected and sold away to a decent trade, show sheep around the £180-£220 mark, and good runs of strong sheep £150-£180, nice sorts £130-£145 and the commercial sorts £120-125.

BREDDING SHEEP - FRIDAY 18TH AUGUST 2017

CCM Auctions held their Annual Special Sale of Breeding Ewes 2 Shear and older together with other sheep at Skipton on Wednesday where there was an entry of 828 sheep with additional sale day entries. There were some very good Annual Consignments of young sheep with Thomas Binns making £158 and £150 of 2 shear Mules and David Coates making £150 on three occasions also for 2 shear Mules. Some large consignments of full mouth correct Mule ewes and broken mouth ewes receiving strong interest for early lamb production, as were the stronger Suffolk and Continental cross ewes the best of which were in the £100 to £115 region.

A very good show of 215 outfits with 319 lambs at foot forward for the weekly sale which incorporated the Annual Show & Sale of Single Sheep with Lambs at foot. Hill sheep were kindly judged by Mr Charles Kitching, whilst lowland sheep were judged by Mr R Donaldson and Mr Howard Kitching.

John Bland four-timer at Skipton ewes with lambs show Skipton Auction Mart’s late season bank holiday show and sale of single ewes with lambs at foot is a happy hunting ground for Derbyshire’s John Bland, who notched up a notable achievement in the hill sheep section when winning it for an unprecedented fourth year in succession.
