MULE GIMMER LAMBS - TUESDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER 2014

Great Annual Show & Sale of North of England Mule Ewe Lambs onbehalf of NEMSA Members. Forward: 7,810 head at an overall average of £99.88 per head (-£2.12 down) CCM Auctions conducted the opening show and sale of NEMSA members Mule Gimmer Lambs at Skipton Auction Mart, North Yorkshire on Tuesday. The overall sale average levelled at £99.88 (-£2.12 on the year) with an increase of 10% on the numbers sold. The general story of the sale was that running lambs were dearer on the year, but tupping lambs would be cheaper.

Booth repeat championship double at Skipton NEMSA opener A back-to-back championship double was secured by the Smearsett flock of North Craven’s WA&A Booth at the big opening annual ewe lamb show and sale for members of the North of England Mule Sheep Association (NEMSA) at Skipton Auction Mart.

BREEDING SHEEP - TUESDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER 2014

CCM Auctions fortnightly Sale of Breeding Sheep produced a nice trade for younger sheep, with Shearlings to 3crop ewes, especially Mules in strong demand. Topping the sale at £195 was Geoff Carr, Gisburn with Charollais Gimmer Shearling to £195 each. Older ewes and broken mouthed ewes were generally £10 in front of the Monday trade.

SATURDAY 30TH AUGUST - RARE BREED PRESS REPORT

Grisedale Herdwick sheep champion at Skipton native breeds highlight A Herdwick gimmer shearling from Ian and Angela Grisedale, of Green Mount Farm, Crooklands, Kendal, was champion in the sheep show classes at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Rare & Native Stock Breeders Auctions of rare, minority and traditional breeds of cattle, sheep, goats and pigs.

BREEDING SHEEP - FRIDAY 22ND AUGUST 2014

CCM Auctions held the special august sale of breeding sheep (2shr +) and rams at Skipton Auction on Friday the 22nd where a useful entry of 1032 ewes and 18 rams were forward for sale. Several runs of young sheep were highly sought after with 44 different purchasers successful on the day. Thomas Binns, Downham presented his annual consignment of 2shr ewes selling at £148, £146 and £144 each. Martyn Jennings sold ewes as part f a major reduction and 2 crop mules topped at £144, homebred texel 2 crop ewes at £140 and homebred Suffolk x 2 crop ewes at £138. Older sheep were also in strong demand with customers looking for early tupping ewes.

SHEARLING GIMMERS - TUESDAY 19TH AUGUST 2014

Forward: 4,019 head of Shearling Gimmers CCM Auctions conducted their Great Annual Prize Sale of Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton on Tuesday. Sheep were shown in fine fettle and trade was slightly better on the year, with the overall selling average rising by £7.53 on the year. In the morning the prize show for Mules was judged by Mr Andrew Ogden of Cowling and Mr Warwick Gill, Melton Mowbray. This year the Edgar Boothman Trophy for the best pen of Mule shearlings was awarded to Mr John Greenhalgh of Bashall Eaves. They later sold at £215 each to Mr Gill. The second prize pen from Peter & Edward Fox of Clitheroe achieved the same price and went to the same purchaser.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 6th AUGUST 2014

SKIPTON AUCTION MART MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 6th AUGUST 2014 Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs. Forward: 4,775 Head – 4517 Store Lambs & 258 Breeding Sheep. Overall av £57.53 At Skipton Auction Mart on Wednesday, CCM Auctions had another large entry for the fortnighty sale of store sheep which sold away nicely. A large ringside of customers assembled and trade soon got into a similar level to that seen last fortnight. More buyers are now getting ready to take longer keep lambs, whilst seasonal customers will also looking be for Suffolk x Mule Gimmer Lambs in early September.

MARKET REPOER - MONDAY 19th MAY 2014 E&L

612 Breeding Sheep comprising 262 Hoggs & Ewes with 350 Lambs @ Foot. A smaller show sold well. A good full ringside of buyers assembled late in the season and quality Continental sheep sold well for the equivalent of £80 to £100 per life regardless of age. Strong Mule Hoggs with lambs £185 to £205 the outfit, but some with not just the same power at £160 to £180 the outfit.

MARKET REPORT - MONDAY 5th MAY 2014 E&L

2,540 Breeding Sheep The annual special sale of hoggs and lambs and geld gimmer hoggs was held at Skipton auction today. With 97 different successful purchasers during the sale, the ringside was packed and this helped produce a highly satisfactory sale. Our thanks to today’s judges and the prize awards are listed below. Next week’s sale will see an entry of approx 500 outfits of Hoggs, Shearlings, Ewes with Lambs @ Foot. MARKET REPORT - MONDAY 21st APRIL 2014 E&L

Breeding Sheep (525 Outfits) The largest show of Ewes with lambs at foot seen for a regular weekly sale at Skipton Mart were forward today and all classes sold away quite nicely. There was something for all tastes with several runs of young Mule and Continental Ewes that again caught the eyes of those purchasers looking to buy sheep to run in flocks. The older sheep represented a slightly better selection than of late with some decent strong lambs on straight ewes for feeder/finishers to run at grass until the summer.

MARKET REPORT - MONDAY 14th APRIL 2014 E&L

1,047 Breeding Sheep The largest show of the season so far with 350 outfits and over 100 geld hoggs on offer. Young sheep were in great demand, David White of Hebden topping the sale with Texel Shearlings and twins at £255, Andrew Bailey from Eldroth had £232 for a pen of 10 Mule Shearlings with twins. Another notable price was Chris Craven of Kexby with a lovely pen of Texel Ewes with singles lambs selling away £196 the outfit. Another nice show of geld Mule gimmer hoggs averaged £130 each.

MARKET REPORTS - MONDAY 7TH APRIL 2014 E&L

418 Breeding Sheep A slightly small show of ewes & lambs were presented to a packed ringside of buyers. Trade was slightly stronger on the week. Any young sheep received strong interest. Chris Craven selling 2 crop Texels with Twins to £200, David White selling Mule Shearlings with Twins to £210 and 3 shears with Twins to £206, whilst Andrew Bailey sold Mule Shearlings with twins to £215 and singles to £165. Pick of the older sheep saw Les Grange sell Texel Ewes with Twins at £210 and £204 twice. Kenneth Browes topped the Geld Mule Hogg trade at £140 averaging £129 through. 622 Breeding Sheep (inc: 219 Ewes with 380 Lambs & 23 Store Lambs A fantastic show of sheep with lambs at foot drew a large crowd of buyers. The quality end were an exceptional trade with several vendors seeing the equivalent of £75 to £85 per life for singles and twins. With more young outfits on offer today there was greater choice for buyers looking to put sheep into a flock this summer whilst the usual selection of older sheep with strong lambs offered feeders plenty to bid at.

MARKET REPORT - MONDAY 24th MARCH 2014 E&L

379 Breeding Sheep comprising 107 Ewes with 171 Lambs & 101 Store & Geld Hoggs An increased show of 379 Head for the weekly sale attracted a larger contingent of buyers. Trade would be slightly better on the week with a few pens of nice Texel ewes with lambs topping £200, but a solid trade for the commercial outfits with plenty of choice for buyers and prices ranging from the equivalent of £45 to £65 per life.

MARKET REPORT - MONDAY 17th MARCH 2014 E&L

345 Store & Breeding Sheep comprising 76 Ewes & 128 Lambs, 22 Inlamb Ewes & 119 Store Hoggs A slightly larger show were not up to the overall quality of last week and prices were slightly easier on the week.
