SWALEDALE RAMS - MONDAY 12TH OCTOBER 2020

Forward: 72 Registered Aged and Shearling Swaledale Rams A tremendous sale this year was seen for Swaledale Rams at Skipton with a very high clearance rate, seeing all 28 aged rams forward selling to a top of £1400 and a solid average of £539 each, whilst Shearlings sold to £1500, averaged £406.22 and an 85% clearance.

Selling averages up for all classes at third Skipton gimmer lamb highlight The October gimmer lamb highlight at Skipton Auction Mart – the third sale of the season - again saw much improved trade on the year when producing an overall selling average for the increased entry of 4,169 head of £89.50, compared to 2019’s £65.90 for just over 4,000. ANNUAL SHOW & SALE OF SWALEDALE EWES & GIMMER SHEARLINGS Forward: 2,364 head. Overall Average was £116.34 (+£29.65) CCM Auctions conducted their Annual Sale of Swaledale Draft Ewes and Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton Mart on Saturday. A good trade during the Autumn for Mule Lambs brought buyers to the Annual Sale of Swaledale Breeding Sheep in confident form which brought an increase of £29.65 per head against the 2019 average of £86.39 which on the year was considered a good result.

CCM Skipton Swaledale females up almost £30 per head on year Horns aplenty were on parade at Skipton Auction Mart as Swaledale females came down from the hills for the annual gimmer shearlings and draft ewes Saturday fixture, when much enhanced trade across the UK sheep sector was again reflected in an overall selling average for 2,364 head of £116.34, up a solid £29.65 on the 2019 average of £86.39. Lleyn Sheep have received strong interest this year at the society sales, and todays sale at Skipton was no exception, with females in high demand, and rams receiving a solid trade.

196 BFL Rams & Females: CCM Auctions held their Annual Sale of Blue Faced Leicester Rams and Females at Skipton on Tuesday Evening where trade was said to be good, without seeing some of last years extreme prices.

Threshfield Kitchings clinch top price double at Skipton BFL highlight The Kitching family, from Grisedale Farm, Threshfield, notched up a notable top price double with a shearling ram and ram lamb, both well-bred sons of their prolific and much utilised Smearsett H8 tup, at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual show and sale of Blue Faced Leicester rams and females. Second Prize Show & Sale of North of England Mule Ewe Lambs on behalf of NEMSA Members. Forward: 6,185 head at an overall average of £102.26 per head (+25.03 on 2019) CCM Auctions held their 2nd Fortnightly Sale of North of England Mule Gimmer Lambs on behalf of members of NEMSA on Tuesday at Skipton. There was a very good level quality of lambs for this years second sale, with several pens of genuine tuppers still being present, but in the main lambs were of a decent size for running and looking in nice order.

Gimmer lamb trade soars again at 2nd Skipton NEMSA highlight Threshfield Kitchings over the moon to claim first-ever 10’s title Trade stepped up yet another gear when the 6,185 gimmer lambs successfully sold at Skipton Auction Mart’s second annual fixture for members of the North of England Mule Sheep Association (NEMSA) levelled at an impressive £102.26 per head, an increase of £25.03 on the year. Premium prices were once more seen for top end pens. (Tues, Sept 22)

Forward: 2,713 Head comp: 2692 Ewes & Shearlings & 21 Pedigree Charollais Rams CCM Auctions held their fortnightly sale of Gimmer Shearlings and Breeding Ewes at Skipton Mart on Tuesday. Another good sale with quality sheep of all breeds in high demand and commercial sorts generally getting away quite nicely, with breed averages for Texels the same as the first sale and Mules just £5 less. Best shearlings of all breeds from £150 to £200, a couple of prize winning pens of continentals just a shade over. Commercials types of shearlings £120 to £145 depending on quality.

Ribble Valley show successes at 2nd Skipton shearling gimmer highlight Skipton Auction Mart’s latest fortnightly sale of 2,692 gimmer shearlings and breeding ewes saw quality sheep of all breeds in high demand, with commercial types also getting away nicely, producing breed averages for Texels virtually identical to the first sale the previous month at £156 per head, while North of England Mules were just £5 cheaper at £143. Strong support for Skipton’s native & rare breeds annual highlight While Skipton Auction Mart’s Rare & Native Stock Breeders Auctions of rare, minority and traditional cattle and sheep were, of necessity, without the usual show classes this year the annual highlight was again well supported by enthusiastic breeders from both near and far, many familiar faces among them.
