MULTI BREED RAM SALE - FRIDAY 4TH OCTOBER 2019

Ellis Bros claim top call with 2,400gns Beltex shearling ram at CCM Skipton multi-breeds highlight Procters Farm in peak form with another Texel champion Skipton Auction Mart’s annual multi-breeds sheep showcase for pedigree and pure-bred rams and females attracted another solid turnout of 897 head, with quality in abundance and sheep to suit all tastes and pockets. Annual Sale of Lleyn Sheep. Top price was achieved by Miss C Nicholson Lot 2 selling for 2000gns. Champion was Mr H Goldie with a shearling ram Lot 24.

BFL RAMS & FEMALES - TUESDAY 1ST OCTOBER 2019

There was a new format this year as CCM Auctions held their Annual Sale of BFL Rams & Females at Skipton Mart which was held on Tuesday evening. The sale attracted breeders from a large area, many attracted by the opportunity to purchase stock from the breeders responsible for quality runs of Mule lambs at the Skipton NEMSA sales. 14 sheep achieved 4 figure bids with Joe & Nancy Throup’s Chelker flock taking top price at 4,000gns with a shearling ram by their J1 Asby Hall. The ram took second prize at the Skipton branch progeny show in August and attracted a successful bid from Robin Booth and went home to join their Smearcett flock. The champion sheep on the night, the 1st prize Ewe Lamb presented by WM Hutchinson & Sons, Kirkby Redgate was by the £18,000 Shafthill K8. This smart lamb sold locally to EW&JR Parkinson at Dunsop Bridge. (Full report to follow)

BREEDING SHEEP - TUESDAY 1ST OCTOBER 2019

2209 Forward: 335 Shearlings, 471 2shr to Correct Ewes and 1403 Broken Mouthed Ewes CCM Auctions fortnightly sale of breeding sheep produced another good clearance for a more commercial show of shearlings with Texel crosses averaging £121 and Mules £118. Older Ewes again produced strong interest as has been the case for most of this season. Best younger sheep £100 or more, correct full mouth sheep £85-£100 and broken mouthed lowland sheep in the 60’s and 70’s, Mule to £82 for a strong pen from A&ED Booth, Giggleswick.

Forward: 6,470 head at an overall average of £77.23 per head (+5.51 on 2018) CCM Auctions held their 2nd Fortnightly Sale of North of England Mule Gimmer Lambs on behalf of members of NEMSA on Tuesday at Skipton where a tidy entry of lambs sold away nicely on the year whilst still being sensibly priced for all concerned.

Cross-border victors at 2nd Skipton shearling gimmer highlight The two show classes at Skipton Auction Mart’s second annual shearling gimmer fixture fell to exhibitors from both sides of the border, who were both stepping up after finishing runners-up in the same sections at last year’s corresponding fixture. (Tues, Sept 17) The red rosette-winning North of England Mules from brothers Peter, Edward and Robert Fox, of Fox Farms in Clitheroe, were a pen of ten purchased as gimmer lambs at Skipton’s 2018 NEMSA autumn highlights.

Milly Eaton Herdwick top of the flocks at Skipton native & rare breeds showcase Showing Herdwick sheep for the first time at her local auction mart, Skipton’s Milly Eaton was rewarded with a debut championship success in the annual rare and native breeds highlight. (Saturday, Sept 7) The 21-year-old clinched her CCM Skipton debut title win with her first prize April, 2017-born 2 shear ram, by a Gatesgarth tup from Anthony Hartley, of Turner Hall Farm in Dunnerdale, South Lakeland. He is one of the UK’s top Herdwick breeders.

Victors take top prices at CCM Skipton rams showcase The annual ‘Craven Continentals’ breeding sheep fixture at Skipton Auction Mart featured standalone shows for both Suffolk and Continental rams of all breeds, with the victors in both going on to head the prices in their respective sections. GIMMER SHEARLINGS - TUESDAY 20TH AUGUST 2019

Forward: 3,040 head of Gimmer Shearlings Trade was dearer than expectations today when CCM Auctions conducted their Opening Autumn Show & Sale of Mule, Masham, Continental and Suffolk cross Gimmer Shearlings where an overall selling average of £139.84 per head was recorded, undoubtedly helped this year by the better availability of grazing and a good prime trade for the time of year.
