DAIRY & CALVES - MONDAY 24TH JULY 2017

Craven Dairy Auction (29 head) Milkers into an extra gear today with a top price of £2200 for a heifer from Tony Swires of Stainburn who also saw his consignment of four average £2020. KT Wood & Son, Holcombe found their reserve champion heifer first in the ring but nobody held watching it reach £2100 selling to regular supporter Brian Blezard of Ribchester.

CALVES - MONDAY 17TH JULY 2017

Rearing Calves to £450 (81) B&W&Dairy Shorthorn av £90.28 Cont av £361.30 Native av £254.56 Good trade throughout the breed sections for calves from British Blue Bulls headed up by Ian Collins with a 24 day old calf which sold for £450. Church Farm Enterprises presented a lovely pen of British Blue heifer calves at just over a month in age which average £408 for 4. Strong bidding for Native breeds both bulls and heifers with the pick of the Angus £375 from Richard Spence and Edward Berry £320 for a Hereford Bull. A higher percentage of Black and White bulls which were younger and bred from heifers met a good trade with the best black calves £158 for British Friesian from JC&DJ Marshall&Sons and crossed calves £145 from IR&DE Wellock.

Craven Dairy Auction (15 head) A much improved trade this week with Arla’s price increase looking to be the main catalyst today. Richard and Andrew Walker of East Morton took the Championship this morning with a cracking home bred heifer that was calved 14 days giving 31 litres sold to Richard Sutcliffe of Queensbury for £2180. The Reserve Champion picked out by Peter Sowray was presented by Wilson Stewart, Carlisle sold for £1880 selling to Richard Sutcliffe again.

Dairy champion sells for £2,180 as trade improves Richard and Andrew Walker, of East Morton, seized their first dairy championship at Skipton Auction Mart on Monday. There was a much improved trade this week, with Arla’s price increase looking to be the main catalyst. Show judge Peter Sowray, of Bishop Thornton, picked out the champion, a cracking home-bred heifer, calved 14 days and giving 31 litres, which sold to Richard Sutcliffe, of Queensbury, for £2,180. Mr Sutcliffe also bought the reserve champion for £1,880, from Wilson Stewart, of Carlisle.

Another Harehills champion at Craven Dairy Auction Sally Wellock, who runs the Harehills pedigree dairy herd at West House Farm, Oldfield, near Keighley, picked up her second Craven Dairy Auction championship of the year at the second June show at Skipton Auction Mart. (Mon, June 19)

Craven Dairy Auction (22 head) A cracking trade for the milkers forward today with the Reserve Champion from the Fort family of Glusburn taking the top price at £2050, giving 26 litres and just calved a week sold to Mark Goodall of Tong. Champion from Sally Wellock of Oakworth was giving 25 Litres and sold again to Mark Goodall of Tong for £1920.

CALVES - MONDAY 12TH JUNE 2017

Rearing Calves to £515 B&W av £65 Cont av £386.39 Native av £241 £515 was the top price of the day for the Champion calf from the Sowray Brothers of Bishop Thornton, the calf which was 6 ½ Weeks old was bred By Brennand General (A Bull bred JC Walker & Son, Dunsop Bridge) sold to Andrew Houseman of Harrogate. The Sowray’s also saw their first price heifer reach £450 selling to Nigel Garth, Addingham. A handy number of calves were on show today for the Summer Calf Show with Tony Binns of Clint doing the Judging Honours. British Blue bulls saw the best of the trade with 11 over £400 and averaging £406.92. Heifers again were a pleasure to sell with Continental heifers averaging £371, with Suckler buyers bidding fiercly for replacement heifers.

Sowray Bros 2017 hat-trick at Skipton rearing calf show Prolific Skipton Auction Mart rearing calf champions, the Sowray brothers, of Bishop Thornton, rattled up another title at the June show, making it a hat-trick of championship successes for the year after previous wins in February and April.

Craven Dairy Auction (18 head) A cracking trade for milkers today with all selling to a strong trade, Mark Smith of Winterburn had the pick of the trade with his homebred heifer reaching £2020 to Mark Goodall of Tong with Brian Moorhouse watching his heifer also hit the £2,000 mark which headed to Ribchester with Brian Blezard.

Commercials in command at Craven Dairy Auction Commercial newly calven heifers bagged the leading honours at Skipton Auction Mart’s opening June Craven Dairy Auction, with the championship awarded to the first prize winner from Bingley’s Keith Downs and the reserve going to the runner-up from Addingham Moorside’’s Mark Stapleton. Rearing Calves to £450 (73) B&W av £147.13 Cont av £370.87 Native av £190.12 A good number of calves today and an EXCEPTIONAL TRADE!!!!!!. Black and White Bulls averaged £147.13 (av 39 days old) to £290 for a belter from Michael Heron of Bramhope. Continentals had a flyer too with Heifer buyers out in force, Fred Houseman of Church Farm Enterprises to £450 and a BB Heifer average of £392. Bulls not quite as potent but with Shaun Sowray topping at £405 and an average of £405 for all Blue Bulls, the limousins weren’t much different again with heifers outstripping their male counterparts with Bulls averaging £362.50 to £400 G Pickergill & Sons, Hawksworth but Heifers av £376 to £400 PJ&JE Bolland, Airton.

Aireburn heifer bags another Skipton dairy title Brian and Judith Moorhouse’s Aireburn pedigree herd at Hesper Farm, Bell Busk, sent out yet another champion at Skipton Auction Mart’s latest Craven Dairy Auction show and sale. (Mon, May 22)

CALVES - MONDAY 15TH MAY 2017

Rearing Calves to £400 B&W av £88.30 Cont av £354.67 Native av £230 Quiet show forward this week however again trade flying for these handy calves. Straight black and whites flying off the shelves with Richard Spence at £155 for his B&W bull at 4 weeks and Chris Drake at £145 for a 5 week old Holstein bull calf. Blues pretty potent also however it was a strong limousin bull from Chris Watson of Horton Pasture that topped the days trade at £400 with John and Rob Marshall making the most of the strong trade and hitting £385 for a sweet 4 week old bull. Calves continue to be in strong demand and the auction offers the best place to maximise price. Please come and drop some of and find out.

DAIRY CATTLE - MONDAY 8TH MAY 2017

Craven Dairy Auction (18 head) A decent number forward for the May sale however with just a slight lack in quality hampering the trade, however Tony Swires was on the receiving end of the best trade seeing his Reserve Champion reach £1850 and his other heifer reaching £1680, with Brian Moorhouse seeing £1680 for his straight heifer and his ¾ Holstein ¼ Jersey Cow selling to £1520 to top the cow class. Mark Smith of Winterburn saw his home bred heifer reach £1650 on a day which saw an up and down sort of trade.

Swires reserve champion secures top price at Craven Dairy Auction Commercial dairy farmers, father and son, Tony and James Swires, from Town End Farm, Stainburn, between Harrogate and Otley, were again to the fore at Skipton Auction Mart’s opening May Craven Dairy Auction show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart.
