Rearing Calves to £350 (51) B&W av £70.43 Cont av £273.4 Native av £211.4 51 Calves through the door today with not the greatest show of calves on offer today. A few handy prices for the better end of the continental bulls and heifers with Richard Spence of Sutton topping with his bull at £350 and his Limousin topping the heifers at £340 with Sowray’s not far behind at £330.

Stainbank heifer is Craven Dairy Auction champion Dairy cattle breeder Robin Jennings, who runs the Stainbank pedigree Holstein herd at Hill House Farm, South Stainley, took the champion’s rosette at Skipton Auction Mart’s second Craven Diary Auction of the year.

Rearing Calves to £450 (54) B&W av £80.83 Cont av £328.5 Native av £199.5 A strange trade for calves today with younger calves outstripping the older ones. Fred Houseman topped proceedings at £450 for one of his British Blue calves and all Blue Bulls averaging £384. Black and Whites were dearer today with certainly some better goods on sale and a stronger average at £80.83. A strong number of natives forward at handy money with John and Rob Marshall of Dacre topping proceedings with a Aberdeen Angus Bull at £285 and a mention for Chris Watson with his 3 week old Limousin x MRI bull at £365, it was a little cracker.

CALF SHOW - MONDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER 2017

Rearing Calves to £460 (81) B&W av £73.06 Cont av £357.49 Native av £212.45 A cracking calf by Chris and Thomas Harrison of Elslack took the top honours at the New Years Calf Show with a Simmental Bull. The calf which was 5 weeks old went on to sell to the Judge Simon Thompson of Driffield for £460. Fred Houseman had a cracking show of bulls on show today also with his 6 Bulls averaging £420 and his 3 British Blue heifers at £420, £410 and £380. Colin Whitelock of Gargrave was also on the receiving end of somke strong bidding with his young calves topping at £410.

CALVES - MONDAY 2ND JANUARY 2017

Rearing Calves to £460 (115) B&W av £70.02 Cont av £338.7 Native av £224.6 A cracking show of Calves this morning and a strong trade to meet them, 115 calves saw a packed ringside on the new year bank holiday with the very best calves flying to strong prices. Fred Houseman and Geoff and Margaret Booth were at the Sharp end at £460 and £450 respectively with 12 Blue bulls past £400. The better blue heifers all sold away well with farmer buyers snaffling some quality entries with Martyn Jennings of Cowling having the pick of the trade at £390.

Rearing Calves to £400 (79) B&W av £50.03 Cont av £332.8 Native av £184.75 Good trade for calves today with first quality calves selling away well. Johnny Moon from Wigglesworth topped the days trade with a run of ten calves peaking at £400 and all his bulls £370+ today. Black and Whites were not quite as fiery as last week but still good to sell with again first quality knocking on into £60+ were as second quality were penalised.

Booth Blue bull calf is Christmas champion at Skipton Lothersdale husband and wife Geoff and Margaret Booth presented a cracker of a calf to land the supreme champion’s crown at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Christmas rearing calf show and sale, which attracted an 81-strong turnout. (Mon, Dec 5) The Booths, of Dowshaw Farm, lifted the title with their first prize six-weeks-old home-bred British Blue-cross bull calf, by the Genus sire, Governor, out of a Holstein dairy cow. Given the nod by pre-sale show judge Robert Foster, of Wetherby, the victor went on to sell for the day’s joint top call of £520 to North Lincolnshire’s Nigel and Maria Mason.

CHRISTMAS CALF SHOW - MONDAY 5TH DECEMBER 2016

81 Rearing Calves B&W av £61.90 Cont av £375.83 Native av £188....... A fantastic day for the Craven Cattle Marts Christmas Calf Show with Geoff and Margaret Booth of Dowshaw Farm, Lothersdale taking the Champion rosette and also the top price of the day with their superb British Blue bull calf selling for £520 to N&M Mason of Lincolnshire. The Booth family who are strong supporters of Craven Cattle Marts were awarded the prize by Robert Foster of Wetherby. Reserve Champion went to a cracking entry from Sowray Bros of Bishop Thornton selling to Mr Mason again for £500. Fred Houseman of Church Farm Enterprises was also in the mix with his best bull reaching £520 also. A total of 13 bulls over £400 and an average of £401.75 for 26 Blue bulls sold.

Craven Dairy Auction (40 head) The Christmas Dairy Show at Craven Cattle Marts can be deemed as a great success with the Craven Cattle Marts Perpetual Trophy won by none other than regular supporter of CCM Robert Crisp of Calton in Malhamdale. David Hall of Conistone Cold was our judge for the Pre-Sale Show with Mr Crisps 27kg, 15 day calved Homebred Heifer selling to Alf and Andrew Townsend of Southfield for £2150. Reserve Champion, a Shottle Daughter from Brian and Judith Moorhouse of Bell Busk was second in show and sold for £2000 which sold to William Oldfield of Stocks Enterprises, Gisburn.

Crisp champion a cracker at Christmas Craven Dairy Auction The annual Christmas Craven Dairy Auction at Skipton Auction Mart was a cracker, with some solid trade achieved for the 40-strong entry. (Mon, Nov 28) The Craven Cattle Marts Perpetual Trophy for the festive fixture champion was won by the first prize newly calven heifer from Malhamdale’s Robert Crisp, who runs his commercial dairy herd at Nelson Farm, Calton, and who was stepping up on his reserve championship success at the previous dairy show.

Craven Dairy Auction (32 head) A healthy show of milkers present this morning with 28 tied up in shippon. Peter Baul of Bishop Thornton took top honours when judge Wick Williams picked his 28kg, 16 day calved pedigree heifer from the Ravensgate herd which went on to sell for £1650 to the judge himself. Reserve Championship went to Robert Crisp of Calton with his big framed light heifer selling to the sale high of £1700 to Alf and Andrew Townsend. Keith Downs from Bingley brought four sweet heifers, all of which looked like very durable heifers and received £1650, £1620, £1400 and £1300 for his consignments.

83 Rearing Calves & 18 Dairy Cattle: Craven Dairy Auction (18 head) A changeable sort of trade today with good heifers selling away well with Brian Moorhouse of Bell Busk topping the day’s trade with his Pedigree heifer giving 32kg and from the Aireburn Miss America family went on to sell for £1850 to Stephen and Eddie Jeanes, Glusburn. Another heifer from Hesper Farm went on to sell for £1750, which had been calved just 10 days and giving 27kgs sold to Brian Blezard of Hothersall Hall Farm.

Another Lawson Jazz heifer hits the high notes at Craven Dairy Auction The Lawson family’s Newbirks pedigree Holstein herd at Mill Farm, Arthington, landed its fifth Craven Dairy Auction title of the year at Skipton Auction Mart’s main October Craven Dairy Auction.

Craven Dairy Auction (31 head) Brian Moorhouse of Bell Busk took the Dairy Championship today at the Early October Sale with his Pedigree Heifer calved 14 days and giving 30kg went on to sell for the sale high of £1950 to the Jeanes Family of Sutton In Craven. The reserve champion on the day came from the Calvert Bros of Crathorne with a sweet 40 litre heifer selling to £1680 to the Judge Brain Blezard of Ribchester.
