CALVES - MONDAY 20TH MAY 2019

Rearing Calves to £460 (123) B&W av £58.54 Cont av £329 Native av £178.89 A tremendous show of calves for this morning’s spring show and sale of calves with Robert Foster of Tadcaster taking charge with the judging. The judge stood by his decision and bought the champion, a tremendous British Blue bull presented by Mike Longster of Fellbeck with the hammer falling at £460. The Reserve Champion from Sowray Bros of Bishop Thornton again sold to the judge for £440 this time for cracking 7 week old Genus Jack son. A superb run of calves were on show today especially in the British Blue bulls with 14 calves over £400 with a Simmental Bull also up at £440.

Second calver lands another Craven Dairy Auction title for Aireburn herd A second calver cow from the Aireburn herd of Brian and Judith Moorhouse at Hesper Farm, Bell Busk, picked up another Craven Dairy Auction championship for the couple – their fourth this year – at Skipton Auction Mart’s opening May show and sale. (Mon, May 13)

Rearing Calves to £480 (60) B&W av £62.88 Cont av £316.2 Native av £188.33 A nice show of calves a week before show week and a strong trade set also. Best Calves in the market came from James Cooper of Dacre with a couple of surplus Pure Limousin calves the best of which being a bull calf at 2 mths old selling for £480.

CALVES - MONDAY 6TH MAY 2019

Rearing Calves to £445 (40) B&W av £101.5 Cont av £317.33 Native av £178.33 Blues into top gear again today with Brian Wellock presenting a tremendous blue bull on behalf of his son James of Seat House Farm, Eshton which sold for the sale high of £445 and is on it’s way to hull. A run of cracking blues from Joss Lancaster of Horton in Craven sold to £430 three times, £425, £400 and £395 and also topping the heifers at £330. Right through blue bulls were good to sell with a section average of £383.75. Blue heifers not quite as potent today with a show not just the standard of last fortnight despite this plenty faces were present to produce a respectable average of £255.88.

Smashing dairy day for Sally Wellock at Skipton Auction Mart Craven Dairy Auction regular and multiple past champion, Sally Wellock, who runs the Harehills pedigree herd at West House Farm, Oldfield, above Keighley, was the standout performer when hitting £2,300 twice at the latest show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. (Monday, April 29) She first stepped up with the reserve champion newly calven heifer, a 30-litre daughter of Picardus, out of a Harehills Ethel, who claimed the opening joint top £2,300 price tag when selling locally to regular buyer John Howard, of Heslaker.

Craven Dairy Auction (14 head) What a great day in the dairy ring. Sally Wellock of Oakworth hits £2300 twice. A healthy show of dairy stock in the main ring today with a nice show of newly calven cattle tied up in the shippon. 1st prize in the pre sale show went to a cracking heifer from Peter Baul of Bishop Thornton, by Bossman and giving 32 litres she went on to sell for £1950 to Eric Marshall of Dacre. The reserve champion heifer from Sally Wellock of Oakworth found many admirers, giving 30 litres and by Picardus she went on to sell for £2300 to John Howard of Heslaker, 2 lots later she produced the goods again with a tremendous 2nd Calver giving 42 litres selling for the same price of £2300 this time to Aubrey Greenhalgh. The last cow from Wellock’s then found a home at £1980 with the Hartley family of Beamsley.

CALVES - MONDAY 22ND APRIL 2019

Rearing Calves to £435 (46) B&W av £68.20 Cont av £309.55 Native av £208.45 A healthy show of calves this morning but could sold a heap more. Best continental calves from John and Rob Marshall of Dacre sold to £435 with Church Farm Enterprises also seeing £430 and £425 with 7 calves over and above the £400 mark, which includes the top price heifer also from Church Farm Enterprises at £415.

Improved trade for rearing calves at CCM Skipton Increased interest at the ringside resulted in an improved trade for the 44 rearing calves at Skipton Auction Mart’s latest weekly Monday sale. (Mon, April 8) British Blues were once again to the fore, with Daniel Lancaster, of Horton-in-Craven, topping at £425 with a bull calf, followed by a brace of bulls from Fred Houseman, Church Farm Enterprises in Burton Leonard, at £415 and £410, creating a healthy section average of £338.

Rearing Calves to £425 (44) A handy show of calves this morning with certainly more interest ringside this week. British Blues once again to the fore with Daniel Lancaster topping at £425 with a cracking bull with church farm enterprises not far behind at £415 and £410 creating a helathy average of £338. Limousin calves from Hayton Stocks found a good gear also finding new homes at £390 and £340 for a bull and a heifer.

CALVES - MONDAY 1ST APRIL 2019

Rearing Calves to £375 (43) B&W av £99.44 Cont av £309.64 Native av £184 Handy show of calves this morning and despite a quiet ringside of buyers a good steady trade was seen for all on offer. Best bulls were maybe a touch easier on the week with Fred Houseman of Church Farm Enterprises topping at £375 with a respectable average of 323.64 for Blue bulls. A nice run of limousin’s from Pickersgills sold away to a top of £290.

Harehills heifers champion and reserve at Craven Dairy Auction A brace of newly calven Holstein Friesian heifers from Sally Wellock, who runs the Harehills pedigree herd at West House Farm, Oldfield, Keighley, bagged principal honours at the second March Craven Dairy Auction at Skipton Auction Mart. (Monday, March 15) The three weeks-calved 26-litre victor, Harehills Girlish 87, by the Genus sire, Farnear Ayres, sold for £1,600, while the 23 days-calved 28-litre reserve champion. Harehills Lobelia 757, by another Genus sire, Luncrest Millard, made £1,500. Both joined regular local buyer John Howard, of Heslaker,

DAIRY & CALVES - MONDAY 25TH MARCH 2019

Rearing Calves to £390 x5 (52) B&W av £72 Cont av £335 Native av £305 Another handy turnout of calves considering show week last week. Calves saw a healthy ringside of buyers with some good prices throughout the sale. Despite not breaking £400 this morning there was a rake of 12 calves £370 to £390 from the likes of Joss Lancaster, Mike Longster, John Marshall and Hartley’s of Bolton Abbey. Blue heifers were in a higher gear too this morning with an improved average of £313 and topping at £360 again from Joss Lancaster.

CALVES - MONDAY 18TH MARCH 2019

Rearing Calves to £450 (104) B&W av £76.57 Cont av £322.5 Native av £192.5 Spring calf show this morning with a nice show of 108 calves this morning with 85% of the calves British Blue sired or Black and White bulls. In the pre-sale show a tremendous British Blue bull from Hartley’s of Bolton Abbey was picked out as Champion by the Judge Tony Binns. The champion topped a very strong show of blue bulls with 12 of the entry over £400 peaking with the champion from Hartley’s at £450.

CALF PRESS - MONDAY 18TH MARCH 2019

Hartleys a big hit with Skipton Spring calf show victor and top price Alan Middleton, who trades under the family partnership of JP&KE Hartley at Lane House Farm, Beamsley, was champion with a six-week-old British Blue-cross bull at Skipton Auction Mart’s second rearing calf show of 2019. (Monday, March 19) By a Genus Fertility Plus sire, out of a Holstein Friesian cow, the home-bred victor, shown by Duncan Holme, progressed to land the day’s top price of £450 when claimed by Graham Stainthorpe, from Grewelthorpe, Ripon.

DAIRY & CALVES - MONDAY 11TH MARCH 2019

Craven Dairy Auction (16 head) A strong day in the dairy ring today with Will Shuttleworth pulling out a fine heifer from Brian Moorhouse of Bell Busk to be his Champion. The Champion, a 37 litre Grafeeti daughter with a wonderful udder was fiercely bid for, eventually selling for £2400 to regular supporter Brian Blezard of Ribchester. A strong trade was seen throughout the sale with a cracking heifer from Tony and James Swires of Stainburn, taking 3rd prize and giving 32 litres the hammer eventually fell at £1920. Peter Baul of Watergate saw his heifer sell away nicely, a sweet 28kg fortnight calved heifer, she sold for £1800 to JP&KE Hartley of Bolton Abbey.
