SKIPTON AUTUMN PEDIGREE EVENT - WEDNESDAY 11TH OCTOBER 2017

Paul and Mick team up for top price coup at CCM Autumn pedigree cattle highlight Cattle took centre stage at Skipton Auction Mart for the annual Autumn Pedigree Day, featuring shows for multi-breed beef breeding cattle and suckled bulls, steer and heifer calves, primarily 2017-born. (Wed, Oct 11) In the multi-breeds arena, top price of the day at 2,400gns fell to a 2016-born Limousin bull from Red Rose breeder Paul Fletcher, who runs his Siddall Limousin herd at Top O’Th Hill Farm, Birch, Heywood, and is a regular exhibitor at Skipton’s Spring and Autumn pedigree events.

Caton Blue Faced Leicester tops Skipton multi-breeds trade at 2,400gns Another rock-solid turnout of 1,147 head was on parade at Skipton Auction Mart’s multi-breeds sheep highlight, the annual fixture for pedigree and pure-bred rams and females. (Fri, Sept 30) On what is traditionally one of the busiest days of the entire year at the North Yorkshire venue, the market was packed to capacity, with four sales rings in action and main sales for Blue Faced Leicesters, Suffolks, Blue Texels and Zwartbles, together with secondary sales for Texels, Charollais, Beltex and other breeds.

Shields shearing ewes secure Skipton Lleyn title Wharfedale breeders Mark and Steph Shields, of Plum Tree Farm, Timble, won the shearling ewe show class, then the overall championship, both for the first time, at the Lleyn Sheep Society’s annual registered show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. (Thus, Sept 28) The long-standing society members – they established their flock in 1996 and now run around 100 breeding ewes - lifted the title with five home-bred ewes, mostly by a Laga Farms ram bred by Michael Cursiter, from Orkney.

SHINING STAR CLARY COSMOS ECLIPSES PREVIOUS RECORD. A new Skipton record price of 11,000gns and a healthy rise in averages for rams was seen at the Annual Sale of Pedigree Rams & Females held on behalf of The Beltex Sheep Society at Skipton on Saturday. It was the ram lamb Clary Cosmos ET, from Jock McMillan of Newton Stewart, a son of the imported ram Henry V/H/Vrijbos out of the Supersonic daughter Clary Wild Thing ET who herself was Ayr Show Champion in 2015, that attracted much interest and was awarded the Supreme Champion rosette, the successful bid of 11,000gns coming from Rosie Boden of Stockport. Next in the running at 4,200gns was the reserve show champion from William and Elizabeth McAllister of Ballymena. A son of Ardstewart Armani out of the homebred Cinderella Ewe, this strong and well admired Shearling ram sold locally to Nick Brown and Charlotte Ormonroyd from Claughton, Lancaster. Proctors Farm from Wray near Lancaster topped at 3,000gns with their pen leader Proctors Banker ET. This son of the main stock ram Rathbone Wallace out of Artnagullion Sizie stayed in the Lune Valley when selling to James Wannop from Heaton, Morecambe. Jock McMillan completed a great day at Skipton when a full brother to the champion sold for 2,500gns to Messrs C Birrell & Co, Castle Douglas. Brian Hall from Ainstable topped his pen at 2,000gns with his leading shearling selling for 2,000gns, whilst Karen & David Shuttleworth topped their Heber Park consignment at the same money.

Shining star Clary Cosmos soars to new all-time record high 11,000gns at Skipton Beltex highlight South-west Scotland lowland sheep farmer Jock McMillan set the ringside alight when achieving a new all-time Skipton Auction Mart record high livestock price of 11,000gns (£11,550) with his supreme champion at the Beltex Sheep Society’s annual early autumn pedigree breed highlight. Trumper family debut success at Skipton Jacob highlight A ewe lamb from first-time exhibitors the Trumper family, from Brynderi, Abergavenny in Monmouthshire, south-east Wales, stole the limelight when crowned supreme champion at the Northern Area Jacob Sheep Breeders’ 42nd annual show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. The Inaugural Sale of Suffolk Breeding Sheep saw 30 Pedigree and Pure Bred sheep go under the hammer. The Pre Sale Show of rams saw the ram lamb of Stephen Bolland, Bolton Abbey take 1st prize in his class and went on to make the top price lamb at 550gns to James Foster, Riddings. John Nutter of Hurst Green took the first prize in Shearling class with a super entry and sold for the top price of 600gns. A 70% clearance of rams saw shearlings av £569 and ram lambs average £412.

Beef Breeding Cattle The drinks were on Oddacres Landlord at the final multibreed showdown of CCM’s Pedigree month. Terry and Elaine Priestely’s charge purchased from John and Claire Mason’s, Oddacres Herd and has been used on the pedigree Limousin “Prietec” Herd, the 2015 Gallois Son was picked out by judge Andrew Fisher before selling to David White of Horton In Ribblesdale.
