Elliott Hereford crowned Craven Native Day champion Fox Foot Angus claims 3,400gns top price Weardale husband and wife Hereford cattle aficionados Harry and Janet Elliott, who run the award-winning Cornriggs pedigree herd at Lowcornriggs Farm, Cowshill, scooped championship honours at Skipton Auction Mart’s fourth annual Craven Native Day show and sale. (Wed, May 8) The couple clinched the title with their first time shown Cornriggs 1 Red Knight, a home-bred 14-month-old son of Cornriggs 1 Super Guy (by Baldinnie 1 Carlton). The sire was only recently sold as a six-year-old, having been used successfully on the herd.

Coates Greystone herd claims leading prices at CCM Skipton Blue Wednesday highlight Littlebank herd retains supreme championship North Craven brothers Alan and Graham Coates, who trade as Messrs Coates and run the Greystone herd at Rainscar Farm, Stainforth, were the standout performers on price when claiming top calls of 4,600gns and 4,000gns with a brace of April, 2017-born bulls at Skipton Auction Mart’s 2019 pedigree beef season opener – the annual ‘Blue Wednesday’ show and sale for British Blue bulls and females. Countdown commences to CCM Skipton 2019 pedigree beef show season The 2019 pedigree beef show and sale season at Skipton Auction Mart begins on Wednesday, May 1, with the traditional pipe-opener, the annual ‘Blue Wednesday’ showcase. The fixture, for up-and-coming breeding bulls, the majority ready for work, along with breeding females, is again expected to create keen interest among pedigree, commercial, beef and dairy breeders. Catalogue entries closed last Monday. (Apr 8)

Siddall herd shines at Skipton beef breeding cattle show The Fletcher family’s Siddall pedigree Limousin herd stood champion at the annual early season show and sale of pedigree beef breeding cattle at Skipton Auction Mart. (Wed, Feb 20) Paul Fletcher, who farms with his wife, Tracey, and daughters, Charley, 19, and 12-year-old Bree, at Top O’Th Hill Farm, Birch, Heywood, claimed top spot with his home-bred March, 2017, bull, Siddall Nipper, by the family’s former stock bull, Icarus.

Peter Woof takes pole position again at CCM Skipton Winter Texel showcase Cumbria’s Peter Woof, of Storth End Farm, Stainton, near Kendal, secured another Skipton Auction Mart title win with a shearling ewe at Northern Area Texel Sheep Breeders’ 26th annual opener winter show and sale of pedigree Texel females. (Thursday, Jan 10) Mr Woof was also following up on his championship coup at the breed society’s annual two-day Skipton highlight last September with another home-bred entry from his prolific Stainton flock, a March, 2017, daughter of the 8,500gns Anglezarke Uno, by Knock Trident, out of a dam by the same sire.

Matthew Burleigh champion again at CCM Skipton Beltex winter females showcase Northern Ireland breeder Matthew Burleigh’s Matt’s pedigree flock stood supreme champion for the second consecutive year, also taking the reserve championship at The Northern Beltex Society’s seventh annual winter show and sale of pedigree in-lamb ewes at Skipton Auction Mart. (Sat, Dec 8) Mr Burleigh, who again travelled over from Shanra, Enniskillen, in Co Fermanagh, retained the title with his first prize shearling ewe, Matt’s Candle Light, which, like his 2017 victor, is a daughter of Kingledores Apollo, bred in Scotland by Biggar’s Richard Wood and acquired for 5,580gns in 2015 when standing male and reserve supreme champion at Carlisle.
