STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 28TH JANUARY

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep. Forward: 1,411 Head comp: 1,367 Store Hoggs, 29 Inlamb Ewes, 15 Registered Blue Faced Leicesters. A large entry of store sheep for the time of year averaged £55.61 per head. Not many strong lambs on offer, best Lowland lambs to mid 70’s, best Mule also above £70, medium lambs in the £60’s and smaller lambs £50 to £55. In the entry were 450 Swaledale and Dalesbred lambs and these sold nicely away given the quality on offer.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 14TH JANUARY 2015

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 1433 Head, Overall av £61.38 A mixed show of lambs forward today with small longer term lambs the dearest by a margin however bigger stronger store lambs were also good to sell with this week’s buoyant lamb trade helping no end. A show of 90 In Lamb ewes were well supported with them topping at £136 for some in lamb texel ewes from R Ainsworth, Padiham.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 10TH DECEMBER 2014

A good show of lambs with trade following the recent rise in the primestock prices, with all types and sizes receiving a better trade. Mule lambs saw a marked improvement with the average jumping £4 on the fortnight and horned lambs £7 up though a stronger show was forward. Today was also the annual show of the Addingham Sheep Breeders Charity Mule Wether Sale in aid of Manorlands hospice. Coming out victorious this year was Joe and George Throup of Chelker. Results and Prices are shown at the bottom.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 26TH NOVEMBER 2014

A nice entry forward for sale and a sharp trade too. Any strong lambs were very well bid for as the list of prices below shows, several notable pens including David Walmsley, Worston selling 123 Texels in one pen at £70 each, and James Hall, Darnbrook selling 101 Mule Wethers in one pen at £66.80 each. Strong Horned lambs up around £50. Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 4,854 Head Comprising 4483 Store Lambs, 336 Gimmer Lambs & 35 Breeding Sheep Next Sale is Wednesday 10th December – Entry of 4,000 expected. Entries close Monday 1st December.

STORE LAMBS & BREEDING SHEEP - WEDNESDAY 12TH NOVEMBER

Forward: 6,517 Head – 5,072 Store Lambs & 1,445 Breeding Sheep Next Sale is Wednesday 26th November – Entry of 6,000 expected. Entries close Monday 17th November Plenty of late Autumn grass and a timely lift in prime sheep prices together with a large company of southern based buyers helped to raise store sheep trade by some £3 to £5 per head today, when good entry ofover 6000 sheep were forward for the early November sale of Store & Breeding Sheep.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 29TH OCTOBER 2014

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 6,737 Head, Overall av £55.67 The fortnightly sale of Store Sheep held at CCM Skipton on Wednesday saw an increase in trade from the last sale as more grass and winter keep comes available and buyers turned out in force from across England and Wales to source lambs from the large entry on offer. Another big show of 2,315 Mule & Masham Wethers were good to sell, trade being £3 to £4 stronger than the last sale, especially for the strongest end. A top price for Mule lambs of £64 was achieved by W Furniss & Sons for their pen of 51 head, all other stronger end were £55 plus. Horned lambs were out in number again, strong sorts were good to sell but smaller lambs were a shade easier. The Suffolk & Continental Lambs also saw the stronger types better to sell, Medium keep lambs were a much stronger trade although some long keep lambs were no dearer.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 15TH OCTOBER

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: Head, Overall av £54.37 A big show of lambs forward for sale, and a big ringside of buyers as well helped produce a much better trade than anticipated. Lowland lambs found favour with buyers as averages were pushed higher than the previous sale. Beltex were keenly contested with several pens over £70, whilst the best of the Texels also topped £70. A few pens of nice Texel gimmer lambs also sold well with James Earnshaw topping the sale at £100 and Julie Eddington made £87 of another nice pen. Hill bred lambs were out in force, the 2085 Mule and Masham Wethers averaging a solid £52.53 per head, and 646 Swaledale and Dalesbred Wethers averaging £38.10 each.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 1ST OCTOBER 2014

Forward: 7302 Head, Overall av £56.24 . Store Lambs were forward in large numbers for CCM’S fortnightly sale on Wednesday as this week’s busy schedule moved into its third day. 7,302 lambs sold today at an overall average £56.24 each and over 15,000 sheep have now been this week.

WEDNESDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER 2014

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs (inc Suffolk & Cont x Gimmer Lambs) Forward: 7420 Head, Overall av £59.03 Included in todays’ sale was the Annual Special Show for pens of Continental and Suffolk Gimmer Lambs. Trade for these was good, with a large company of buyers keen to purchase the good clean headed types with a nice skin. The best end of both breeds over £90.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER 2014

Forward: 7,251 Head, Overall av £54.10 The largest show of the season so far saw the first of the drawn Suffolk and Continental gimmer lambs forward for sale. Trade for these was good for the quality sorts, with nice skinned clean headed lambs receiving good attention. Smaller lambs however are best left mixed with the wethers. The Store Lambs saw Suffolk & Continentals in strong demand. Smaller lambs £50 to £53, medium types £54 to £57 and strong end £58 to £62. Quality smart store lambs (Beltex) £64 to £72. A very large show of Mule & Masham Wethers (2,198 head) did not maintain the trade of the previous sale, keeping lambs £45 to £50, medium term lambs £50 to £53.

WEDNESDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER - MASHAM WETHERS PRESS REPORT

Breed chairman lands Skipton Masham wethers show The largest entry of CCM Skipton’s peak sheep sale season so far saw JM Wilson & Sons, of Beckwithshaw, triumph in the Masham wethers annual prize show. David Wilson, chairman of the Masham Sheep Breeders Association, picked up the top prize for a pen of 40 Masham wethers, which sold for £55 per head.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 6828 Head, Overall av £55.69 At CCM Auctions fortnightly sale of store lambs on Wednesday, there was a much larger entry of 6828 head. A feature of the sale was a sizeable entry of 1480 Mule wethers, drawing a larger contingent of buyers from away to secure the first draw of lambs off those farms showing. The stronger Mules were £52 - £58, averaging £51.91 per head.

SKIPTON AUCTION MART MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 6th AUGUST 2014 Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs. Forward: 4,775 Head – 4517 Store Lambs & 258 Breeding Sheep. Overall av £57.53 At Skipton Auction Mart on Wednesday, CCM Auctions had another large entry for the fortnighty sale of store sheep which sold away nicely. A large ringside of customers assembled and trade soon got into a similar level to that seen last fortnight. More buyers are now getting ready to take longer keep lambs, whilst seasonal customers will also looking be for Suffolk x Mule Gimmer Lambs in early September.

MARKET REPORT - WEDNESDAY 23RD JULY 2014 PRESS

Metcalfe success breaks stranglehold at Skipton store lamb show North Yorkshire farming brothers Robert, Chris and Richard Metcalfe finally got their hands on a trophy they have long been keen to win when sending out the champion pen of 50 Suffolk-cross lambs at Skipton Auction Mart’s second major seasonal store lamb show and sale.

Forward: 4,380 Head – 4,207 Store Lambs & 173 Breeding Sheep Store Sheep Overall av £59.24 Another nice entry of Store Lambs forward at the fortnightly sale and trade just slightly dearer than the opening sale. Trade still sensible though with an overall selling average of £59.24 (+£2.51)
