STORE & BREEDING SHEEP - WEDNESDAY 24TH JULY 2019

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 5,796 Head comprising 5,689 Store Lambs (av £58.42) and 107 Breeding Ewes (av £108.06) A large show of sheep today, and the headline figures show 900 more lambs sold than the corresponding sale in 2018 and a rise in the average of £3.32 per head on the year to level at £58.42 per head.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 3,071 Head, Overall av £64.59 (+£3.09) CCM Auctions commenced their fortnightly seasonal sheep sales at Skipton Mart on Wednesday where an entry of 3,071 head was presented for sale.

Numbers and selling averages up at Skipton store lamb opener Increases in both numbers and selling averages were seen, as Skipton Auction Mart’s main sheep sale season got off to a solid start with the traditional pipe-opener for store lambs. (Wednesday, July 10) A total of 3,071 lambs was penned for sale, compared to the previous year’s turnout of 2,126 head, with all breed averages showing an across-the-board increase on 2018 to level at £64.59 per head overall, an increase on the year of £3.09.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 930 Head, Overall av £60.91 As the Wednesday season draws to a close there was another great entry of nearly 1000 sheep for todays sale. The entry was very mixed for quality, strong Suffolk mid 70’s to £80, Strong Continentals £80 plus, Best Mules in the 70’s, good horned lambs mid 40’s to mid 50’s. Inlamb ewes met a mixed response, nice young sheep selling well, but older plainer sorts hard to cash.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep - Forward: 1,204 Head – 1136 Store Lambs av £63.44. 21 Blue Face Leicester Females & 18 In-Lamb Ewes Another strong show of lambs forward considering the time of year with 1136 through the ring.

Forward: 2,068 Feeding and Breeding Sheep. 1,837 Store Lambs & Feeding Ewes - Average £63.57 231 Breeding Ewes – Average £111.37 Another tremendous entry of store and feeding sheep for the time of year met with a fast selling trade when put in front of a good crowd of purchasers. Best Lambs topped at £100 form Hannah Brown and £99 from AM&HV Brown, strong lowland lambs on the day in the late 70’s and early 80’s, medium types in 70’s and longer keep types in the 60’s.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 2432 Head, Overall av £65.96 (+£15.29 on Jan 2018 for 1129 more sold) A great start to the New Year with a large entry of sheep, almost double that seen at the same sale in 2018, and a trade to match. Buyers were out in force, with a large crowd assembled in the Lingfields Ring creating a trade for all classes that was beyond expectations, and an overall sale average of £65.96, being the dearest of the season.

ADDINGHAM SHEEP BREEDERS - WEDNESDAY 14TH DECEMBER 2018

Baa-gains galore at CCM Addingham Sheepbreeders charity lambs sale There were baa-gains galore at Addingham & District Sheep Breeders’ Association’s 12th annual charity show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. (Wed, Dec 12) Big-hearted farmers donated 27 lambs in total, the majority North of England Mules, and bidders at the ringside were equally as generous when the lambs went under the hammer, this year raising £3,800 in aid of annual beneficiary, Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope. The annual showcase has now raised around £44,000 for Manorlands.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs, Feeding and Breeding Sheep Forward: 3,132 Head (Overall av £60.99) A good show of sheep for our fortnightly sale with 2911 lambs and 221 Ewes forward for sale. Trade was very similar to last fortnight with strong sheep in sharp demand, and medium to long keep attracting very strong interest from a busy ringside of purchasers drawn from a large area.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 3,442 Head – 3297 Store Lambs & 145 Feeding Ewes and Breeding Sheep Store Lamb Overall av £61.27 A tidy show of sheep sold to a very good trade, with strong Texels in high demand, topping at £95 from RJ Bailey of Reeth who also sold others at £88. Rob Smith, Steeton sold Texels to £90. Best Suffolks and smarter but smaller Beltex also into the 70’s. The next grade of medium keep Lowland lambs was £65-£70, whilst smaller lambs were £58-£64.

MARKET REPORT WEDNESDAY 31ST OCTOBER

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 5,584 Head (Overall av £57.60). Lambs in very sharp demand today from tops to bottom with a full ring of customers present. High demand for the smart Beltex, topping at £98 from Frankland Farms, 8 other pens at £80 plus. More of these best types of lambs needed for customers at the ringside. The strong short keep Suffolk and Texel crosses were up a gear on the fortnight by £3-£4, whilst the smaller wintering type lambs were also a better trade as seasonal buyers now begin to arrive looking for this type of lamb. Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 5707 Head (Overall av £57.21) CCM Auctions conducted their fortnightly sale of store sheep at Skipton on Wednesday where a nice show of lambs were keenly contested and prices showing a rise on the previous sale. Continental and Down cross lambs were especially good to sell with averages for Suffolks and Texels both over £60, and Beltex’s averaging £71.05.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 6053 Head, Overall av £55.21 A nice show of lambs forward on Wednesday for CCM Auctions Fortnightly sale at Skipton Mart and in the end a nice trade ensued. With grass keep short and prime lambs just a bit steadier this week, the sale started slowly, but soon found a rhythm, and the medium to short keep lambs were in very strong demand, especially stronger Mule Wethers which were generally £55-£60, handier wethers early £50’s.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 6117 Head, Overall av £57.68 A relatively similar trade on last fortnight on paper however in reality longer keep lambs would be a shade cheaper with more buyers on better fleshed types. Mules wethers saw a good steady trade throughout the day with some short keep pens from Rayner, Pateley Bridge at £62.5 and Rosemary Berry, Cowling at £61.5. Longer keep mules were harder to place which reflected a straight average of £54.31.
