STORE LAMBS PRESS - WEDNESDAY 21ST SEPTEMBER 2016

Bordley and Beckwithshaw farmers claim victory at wether lambs show John Tennant, of Bordley, took top prize in the Swaledale show at Skipton Auction Mart on Wednesday with a pen of 50 wether lambs. (SEPT 21) Raised on the moor at Low Bucker House Farm, Bordley, the Swaledales were sold for £41 per head. David Wilson, of Beckwithshaw, picked up the red rosette for his pen of 40 Dalesbreds, all got by home-bred tups, which fetched £43 per head.

Skipton gimmer lambs up almost £10 per head on year The 2,000-plus gimmer lambs on parade at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual mid-September store lamb show and sale offered a large company of buyers an unrivalled choice of both quality and size. They sold to an overall average of £75.77 per head, a marked improvement on the previous year’s £65.94.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 8,048 Head - Overall av £59.61 The largest entry of the season so far met with a grand trade that wasn’t much different to the previous sale. Suffolk’s and Texel’s again offered customers a good selection of short and longer keep lambs with both breeds averaging over £60. Tops of £82 per head for Texel’s from CG Dibb of Low Snowden, whilst Steven Wells of Monyash made £81 of the 1st prize pen of Beltex crosses, the 1,127 Beltex crosses averaged £65.10.

SKIPTON AUCTION MART MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 13th July 2016 Opening Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 4258 Head, Overall av £61.76 (+£3) A sound start to the season at Skipton with a much increased entry of lambs seeing the average rise by some £3 per head. The champion pen of lambs, chosen by Judge Stephen Maskill, came from Chris & Thomas Heseltine of Bolton Abbey sold for a solid price of £76 per head to Thomas Walmsley of Haverah Park.

MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 24th February 2016 Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs and Breeding Sheep Forward: 717 Head, Overall av £55.78 CCM conducted their fortnightly store sheep sale at Skipton on Wednesday. Store lambs were a strong trade, peaking at £80 and £77 for Beltex crosses from Martin and Val Brown of Leyburn. Lambs were dearer than the previous sale helped by the rising prime market. The first sheep and lambs of this season were forward, and weekly sales commence from Monday 29th February, including Inlamb ewes and Store Lambs, approx. 60 outfits pre-entered already. Trade was brisk with weather brightening up a little and customers out looking. Keith Downs dispersed the second half of his flock, and trade was a shade stronger than the previous offering.

CHARITY PRESENTATION TO MANORLANDS 2016

Skipton Auction Mart charity fundraisers net £5,600-plus Brooklands Community Special School in Skipton and Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope have again received substantial charity windfalls from annual fundraisers at Skipton Auction Mart. Craven Cattle Marts’ high profile Christmas primestock shows and the Great Northern Pork Pie Competition staged at the end of November last year featured charity sales of pork pies, Scotch eggs, sausage rolls, fruit cakes, sponges and fodder hay – all donated by willing participants and fought for enthusiastically at the ringside by generous bidders.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs and Breeding Sheep Forward: 1,226 Head comprising 785 Store lambs & 441 Breeding Sheep CCM Auctions held their fortnightly sale of sheep at Skipton Mart on Wednesday with an entry of 1,226 forward for sale. Store Sheep saw a sharp trade for the strongest end whilst the small, end of season types, were just a similar trade. A good run of lambs from Ken Flintoff topped at £76 for a pen of 20 with four further pens of 40 Texels at £71 twice, £70 and £69. Inlamb sheep however were an indifferent trade and appear good value against geld price. Messrs Downs sold the first half of their dispersal today with the second half booked in for next fortnight.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs and Breeding Sheep inc Annual Sale of BFL Females Forward: 1,149 Head – 951 Store & Gimmer Lambs, 190 Inlamb Ewes & 8 BFL Females. CCM Auctions held their 2nd Fortnightly Sale of Store Hoggs and Breeding Sheep at Skipton on Wednesday where another tidy entry of 1,149 head were presented for sale. Store Sheep sold to a very fast trade with strong hoggs in good demand. There was a reduction sale of inlamb ewes held on behalf of Thomas Binns from Downham, Mule Shlgs sold carrying twins sold at £140, 2+3 crop sheep £110-£120 and Correct sheep £95-£98.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs and Breeding Sheep Forward: 1,752 Head, Store Lambs Overall av £52.02 Breeding Sheep av £88.55 CCM Auctions held their Opening New Year Sale of Store and Breeding Sheep on Wednesday at Skipton. A good entry of store sheep were presented to a full ringside of buyers and trade was brisk, especially for the stronger sorts on the day, P Johnson of Trawden topping the sale with apen of Texel crosses and £74 whilst strong Mule Wethers were in to the £60’s, Robin Jackson selling a pen of 30 Mules at £64.50 and 40 at £59, Richard Harker had £63 for a pen of 69 head whilst Nick Parker had a pen of 27 at £63.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: 1760 Head, Overall av £50.33 A good turnout of store sheep were predominantly medium and long keep types with strong lambs short of buyers requirements and as a consequence sold to a very sharp trade. Smart Continental and strong Suffolks were all around £60 or more, and better Mule wethers mid £50’s, outwith the show it was Andrew Sutton of Long Sleddale with a pen of 52 at £57.80 and another pen of 48 at £56 leading the way. More buyers in attendance for smaller long keep types helped these sell well.

ADDINGHAM SHEEP BREEDERS - WEDNESDAY 16TH DECEMBER 2016

Addingham Sheepbreeders charity lambs raise £2,900 for Manorlands Lambs donated by generous farmers earned more cash for charity when sold to a big-hearted ringside at Addingham & District Sheep Breeders’ Association’s ninth annual fundraiser at Skipton Auction Mart. (Wed, Dec 16) Twenty-eight lambs, predominantly Mule wethers, were handed over and, together with other items donated for sale, raised a resounding £2,900 for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope, Keighley, for whom the fixture has now netted some £33,000 in total.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs and Breeding Sheep Forward: 3,554 Head, Overall av £51.30 A good sale of store lambs today with a trade a toucher brisker helped by the recent hardening of the fat lamb trade and seasonal numbers in decline. Healthy mid to short term stores were a strong trade with still some big pens of lambs running into the ring even at this late time of year. 100 mule wethers from JW Hall, Darnbrook was a fine example and with the hammer falling at £56 and David White, Hebden selling 55 for £55. DB&E Greenwood of Threshfield sold the days top price lambs with a pen of Texels at £71.50.
