Irish sheep dog smashes world record selling price at Skipton A new world record price paid for a working sheep dog at an official sale of almost £15,000 was set at Skipton Auction Mart’s late Spring sale for a 16-month old dog from Ireland’s Padraig Doherty. (Fri, May 13) It fell to Cap, a black and white dog bred by Mr Doherty, who with his brother Joe runs Ardagh Sheepdogs in County Donegal.

Belle rings true to claim top price, as records tumble at Skipton working dogs showcase Phenomenal trade, including a top price of 5,600gns (£5,880), saw records tumble at Skipton Auction Mart’s Autumn working sheepdogs sale, with a new record for the number of dogs sold and a new all-time high selling price for a dog under 12-months-old. Pup prices hit new highs at Skipton John Bell top dog again with 5,000gns sale While Howden’s John Bell was again top dog with a 5,000gns sale, it was the pup pen that proved the real eyecatcher at Skipton Auction Mart’s Summer working sheepdogs sale, setting a new record price for the venue. With the very last entry of the day, Irish brothers Padraig and Joe Doherty, of Ardagh Sheepdogs in County Donegal, set the unbroken pen alight with a six-month-old black and white bitch, Ann, which made 1,850gns, the highest-ever price paid for a Skipton-sold pup.

Queen rules as Shaun Richards again crowned top dog at Skipton North Craven’s Shaun Richards was top dog again at Skipton Auction Mart’s autumn sale of working sheep dogs when selling his three-year-old tri-coloured bitch Queen for a sale-topping 4,050gns (£4,252.50). Mr Richards, who runs Pen-y-Borough Sheep Dogs in Eldroth, near Settle, has now headed the selling prices at three of this year’s four seasonal fixtures at the UK’s leading sheep dog sales venue, making second top price at the other.

A three-year-old Border Collie bitch named Tock ticked all the right boxes to clock up the day’s top price of 4,000 guineas (£4,200) at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual summer sale of working sheep dogs. (Fri, July 18). The classy May, 2011-born black and white bitch put in a near flawless performance on the trials field in the hands of Shaun Richards, who runs Pen-y-Borough Sheep Dogs in Eldroth, near Settle in North Craven.

Northern Ireland’s Hugh McKee led the field on price at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Spring sale of working sheep dogs. Mr McKee, a noted sheep dog trainer, who hails from the fishing village of Kilkeel in County Down, reeled in top price honours when selling his two-year-old fully home bred tri-coloured bitch Nell for 3,200gns.
