Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs Forward: Head, Overall av £53.96 The fortnightly sale saw 66 buyers operating throughout the course of the day, with long keep wintering lambs noticeably dearer on the fortnight. Mule lambs averaged £50.97 with a higher percentage of small lambs in the sample but plenty of competition for medium keep mule lambs which topped at £59 from John Schindler of Thorpe for Lonk bred mules and £56 for 179 from Granville and Paul Fairburn, Marriforth for Swale bred Mules and last man in the ring V Verity & Son, West End at £54.50 proved trade was consistent all day long. Continental lambs were also noticeably dearer in the longer keep lambs with anything fleshy working into late £50’s early £60’s all day long with TB Moorhouse of Dacre topping at £72 for a pen of Beltex lambs. Brian Lund topped the Gimmer lamb trade with a sweet pen of Beltex’s at £89.

Gordon Banks saves a prize pen for store lamb show The fortnightly sale of store lambs at Craven Cattle Mart saw 66 buyers throughout the day with long keep wintering lambs noticeably dearer than two weeks ago. A show-stopping pen of 25 Swaledales by CCM yardsman Gordon Banks of Barden took the red rosette and sold at £38 per head. Gordon, who has 350 sheep at home, keeps half his flock pure Swaledales and the other half are bred with Blue Faced Leicesters as male gimmers. He came second in the same show last year, and has also been a yardsman at CCM for 27 years.

Second Prize Show & Sale of North of England Mule Ewe Lambs on behalf of NEMSA Members. Forward: 7,938 head at an overall average of £86.78 per head (- £5.33 on 2014) CCM Auctions held their 2nd Fortnightly Sale of North of England Mule Gimmer Lambs on behalf of members of NEMSA on Tuesday at Skipton. An increased entry forward for sale saw a nice trade, with running lambs a particularly strong trade, whilst top pens were also dearer than the opening sale. The prize show on the morning of sale produced the following results.

Second Skipton NEMSA highlight produces inaugural champions First-time victors emerged in both show classes at the second annual ewe lamb fixture for members of the North of England Mule Sheep Association (NEMSA) at Skipton Auction Mart. (Tues, Sept 22) The title-winning pen of ten gimmer lambs was presented by the Walker family, from Fold Farm, Appletreewick, while the champion pen of 20s came from Wharfedale vendors, the Catons, of Weston Hall Farm, Weston, Otley.

Towell Texel tups top in show and on price at Skipton breed showcase South Craven Texel sheep breeder David Towell marked his return to the Northern Area Texel Sheep Breeders Association show arena after a seven-year break with an eye-catching double - supreme championship and top price coups at the 34th annual two-day show and sale of pedigree rams and females at Skipton Auction Mart. (Thus & Fri, Sept 17 & 18)

CCM Auctions conducted the Northern Area Texel Sheep Breeders Club Sale at Skipton Mart – Leading price at the Northern Area Texel Breeders Club Sale was the 4000gns paid by Mr George Wilkinson of Aspatria for ‘Moor Top Vodka’ a shearling ram by the ‘Procters Pay As You Go’ son Wigglesworth Spellbound consigned by David Towell of Glusburn. Vodka was selected from an exceptional pen of shearling rams which went onto average £1910 and included the first prize shearling ram and overall Supreme Champion ‘Moor Top Vegas’ which made 2000gns and Moor Top Vip which made 3000gns.

Forward: 618 head of cattle Comprising: 70 Young Feeding Bulls, 483 Bullocks & Heifers & 65 Breeding Cattle. There was no let up in cattle numbers at CCM Skipton on Wednesday where a grand entry of 618 head were penned for sale, completing a busy week of 850 Store cattle passing through Skipton Mart having had 232 Stirks at the Monthly sale on Saturday. Young Bulls were a strong trade with additional customers back round the ring with harvest having been been completed. Again there was good interest shown in the 7-8 month old bulls that have been warmed up with creep feed and starting to go forward. Stronger quality Bulls remain up around £1,300.

Forward: 2,698 Head comp: 2,643 Ewes & Shearlings & 55 Pedigree Charollais CCM Auctions held their fortnightly sale of Gimmer Shearlings and Breeding Ewes at Skipton Mart on Tuesday. Breeding sheep attracted a good company of buyers and looked dearer than the previous sale. Thomas Binns of Downham presented a wonderful run of Mule Shearlings and 2 shear ewes and these set the tone for the day with the quality sorts receiving a good trade, whilst commercial types were also a better trade than the previous sale.

Ramsbottom ram champion at Skipton Charollais highlight Galtres rams were responsible for both the champion and reserve at the British Charollais Sheep Society’s annual show and sale of commercial rams at Skipton Auction Mart. (Tues, Sept 15) The title winner was the first prize shearling ram from Red Rose breeder Mark Worthington, who runs the Moss Side pedigree flock at Higher Moss, Ramsbottom. His January, 2014-born shearling, one of twins by the Netherton Highland Prince son, Galtres Lynz Unstoppable, was acquired by Mr Worthington, who established his flock in 1990 and currently has 30 breeding ewes, at last year’s early Builth Wells sale in Wales. He has also bred sons to 1,000gns.

Red Rose clean sweep at Skipton shearling gimmer show Both principal prize winners at Skipton Auction Mart’s second annual shearling gimmer show and sale were landing top honours at the fixture for the first time. (Tues, Sept 15). Thomas and Sheila Binns, of Hecklin Farm, Downham, Clitheroe, sent out the first prize pen of ten Mules, while David Lucas and Angela Nairey, of Bank Hey Farm, Blackburn, were responsible for the red rosette-winning pen of ten pure-bred Texels. The Binns’s victors were all acquired at the previous year’s Skipton NEMSA fixtures and returned to near their place of origin when sold for £162 per head to WT Dewhurst, of Waddington. They were also responsible for the second prize pen, which made £156 each.

A mixed bag of black and whites today with young calves making strong prices, and fleshy calves heading nicely towards £100 on onwards with an overall average of £96.68 topping at £180 for a fantastic bull from Whitakers of Bolton Abbey.
