Rearing Calves to £450 (44) B&W av £110.38 Cont av £369.23 Native av £132.50 The smallest entry for a long time but one of the most electric atmospheres, all calves were a pleasure to sell with black and whites were on fire with buyers in abundance looking for good well fed calves that they have struggled to source elsewhere. Mark Houseman of Church Farm Enterprises topped black and white calves with 1 ½ Holstein Bull for £140 but was closely run by David Booth, Broom House, Earby who had another Holstein at £135 with 15 of the 21 Black and Whites realising over £100 Despite only 14 Blues being forward 6+ buyers were all competing hard for those top quality continentals. A good trade for Natives also considering the size and age, all sold to a good price. Dairy Sale Next week with calves wanted.

MARKET REPORT - WEDNESDAY 15TH JANUARY 2014 1,710 Head, 1279 Store Lambs & 431 Breeding Sheep A good start to the New Year with Store Sheep a sharp trade and plenty of customers present from Welsh Borders & further afield. Plenty more could have been sold and demand looks strong for the next sale. A special sale of inlamb ewes created a great amount of interest including a dispersal sale for Mr John Turner, Draughton whose sheep were in fine order. They helped attract a good company of mainly local buyers, friends and neighbours to bid for them and produced a highly satisfactory trade.

MARKET REPORT - WEDNESDAY 8TH JANUARY 2014 Forward: 1095 head of cattle Comprising: 408 Young Feeding Bulls, 680 Bullocks & Heifers, 7 Breeding Cattle A great show of cattle at Skipton to start the new year, with 150 head more sold than in 2013 and surprisingly the overall average up by £15 per head on the year. The bulls were good to sell with clients cramming the ringside, whilst as the end of the day, the ringside was still 2 or 3 deep with customers ensuring a good level right to the end. It was a mammoth sale but the last pen was sold at 5.37pm.

MARKET REPORT - WEDNESDAY 8TH JANAURY 2014 PRESS A mammoth entry of 1,095 head of cattle produced a bovine bounty not seen since the late 1990s at Skipton Auction Mart’s opening Great New Year cattle sale, with the beef ring packed to the gunnels all day long from the first sale at 9.30am right through until the final hammer fell at 5.37pm.

MARKET REPORT - MONDAY 6TH JANUARY 2014 CALF SHOW Forward : 135 Rearing Calves to £500 av £209.55 B&W av £115 Cont av £305 Native av £195 Mesrs A Sowray & Son, Bishop Thornton started 2014 in fine style wining bothe Championship and Reserve. Their champion the first prize British Blue Bull a 34 day old calf by Fleuron sold to Lincolnshire buyers N&M Mason for £470. The reserve champion consigned from Mesrs Sowray was also awarded the first prize in the British Blue heifer calf and the 33 day old calf by a Norbreck Greenhill sire joined South Yorks buyer S Vodden for £350.
