BFL SHEEP - TUESDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER 2021

Forward: 117 BFL Rams & Females: A superb sale of Blue Faced Leicester’s this evening with one of the best shows of sheep ever seen at this sale, especially in the ram lamb section. Shearling Rams averaged £893, and Ram Lambs were £704, 27 sheep sold at 4 figure prices and there was a virtual total clearance with only 1 sheep unsold.

4 sheep sold for 2,000gns and 3 of them came from John Mason’s Oddacre’s flock. The first at this figure was by the M1 Macqueston and sold to CD&RF Kitching, Threshfield, Skipton. The next at was also by the Macqueston out of an Ilkley Moor ewe and it went to a new home at Eldroth, Nr Lancaster with JE Cowperthwaite, who also took the third 2,000gns shearling from Oddacres which was by the H3 Asby Hall out of a Tipalt dam.
The fourth Ram at 2,000gns was the last ram lamb in the ring, it came from Ashley Caton’s Otterburn Lodge flock. By M4 Asby Hall out of a 2 shear ewe by J1 Smearcett which was itself out the famous old Jackie ewe, it took the eye of JR Addison & Son of Bowes, Co Durham.
Edward & John Parkinson of Dunsop Bridge weighed in at 1700gns with a K5 Hundith sired shearling which came from an Ilkley Moor got ewe, selling to JA&JH Hewetson of Giggleswick, North Yorkshire.
WP&B Walker & Son of Appletreewick stepped in at 1600gns with a M12 Riddings ram lamb, their only entry of the evening in this section, with this selling locally to JR Lancaster, Bordley, Skipton.
JK Wilson & Son, Blubberhouses, Harrogate also achieved 1600gns when their F1 Harland “Bighead” son out of an L39 Smearcett ewe, which they have retained 4 full brothers of, sold to AJ Mason Skipton.
It must also be mentioned this evening that a ram donated by Stephen Hutchinson of Kirkby Wiske, and a Blue Faced Leicester Border Fine Art donated by Ronnie and June Dowie of Settle were sold in aid of the UK Sepsis Trust, in memory of everyone’s good friend Hannah Brown. Our thanks go to both for donating and to the bidders and eventual buyers, the ram sold at 700gns to S Stoney of Kirkby Malzeard, and the Border Fine art to Ben Simpson of Hope Valley for £450.
