There was a solid trade through the strong intermediate bulls and more selective trade through the junior bulls at the Annual Show and Sale of Pedigree Limousin Breeding Cattle supported by the North East Limousin Breeders Club.
Procters Farm, Slaidburn took both Champion and Reserve in the Male section with two intermediate class winners and their Proctors Portillo a December 2019 natural calf by Goldies Jazz out of the Haltcliffe Genesis bred Procters Myleina the top performer at 5900gns when sold to Chapel le Dale’s Jeff Pickles. Their reserve was Procters Rambo an embryo by Goldies Jazz bred from the outstanding Glenrock Diamante which sold to Thomas Robinson of Catlow for 5600gn.
Top price of the day was 6200gn paid by M&E Shaw of Shelley for the impressive Tomschoice Percy who stood third in an intermediate bull class. Percy is by Goldies Nicholas who has stood at Hill Top Farm as stock bull until the sale day and bred from the Carwin Icaros daughter Tomschoice Mercy, which puts him in the top 1% of the breeds EBVs for gestation. Mesrs JM&SP Cooper’s Tomschoice herd earlier won the overall championship with their Female Champion Tomschoice Ibiza a 2013 born Tomschoice Falcon sired cow sold with her Scorboro Nero sired heifer calf at foot born in February which sold to Tim Vickers for 3300gns. Goldies Nicholas made his appearance for the Tomschoice herd as a senior bull and though unshown, his EBVs and progeny ensured that he received a good following when offered for sale making 5700gn. The junior bull section has a reputation for producing future stars and the Oddacres herd of John and Claire Mason produced the much admired Oddacres Reggie a 15 month old son of Procters Major bred from the Gallois cow Oddacres Lady which stood second the Male Champion in class and sold for 6000gns to WP&B Walker & Son.
Making a first appearance at the sale was Geoff Hadfield with his Willowbank herd sending out the first prize in an intermediate class, the Macaroni son Willowbank Patrick an October 2019 calf bred out of Willowbank Megan which made 5000gns selling to Alan Knowles.
In the females aside of the Tomschoice Supreme Champion Mesrs D&A Blockley produced the 2015 Procters Livine an Ampertaine Foreman bred cow sold with her smart Tomschoice Pavarotti January heifer calf which made 4100gn. An unshown 2014 cow, Boldventure Jade from W&H Holden, which is by Dolcorsllwyn Fabio made 4300gns when sold with her exceptional heifer calf sired by Powerful Louis, to Clare Cropper. Maiden Heifers peaked at 2300gns for Tomschoice Roxy a Goldies Nicholas bred from a Kaprico Eravelle granddaughter, in Tomschoice Ici for Mers JM&SP Cooper and Oddacres topped at 1900 gns for the April 2020 Oddacres Revue bred our of the full French cow Elue.
